Excellent potential for delivering to more remote areas
Arent they passing laws in the USA to restrict drone use and these will likely roll out across the rest of the world eventually? Seems like a stupid research investment considering the high likleyhood even if they worked they wouldnt be able to use them.
Even if the drones were legal, the criminals are going to have a field day bringing these things down and stealing the goods? Anti-drone drones already exist.
It's interesting psychologically that as soon as deliveries were spoken of being delivered by drones, many people started talking about hijacking/stealing/vandalising/destroying the delivery drones.
Maybe most aren't serious, but it's viewed as a victimless crime.
Compare it to talking about breaking into an amazon delivery van / stealing its wheels / letting its tires down, and you'll see what I mean.
I don't think anyone sensible would consider it victimless, but the whole system just feels a bit, well, delicate.
I could imagine a recently lost their job to a drone van driver wanting "payback" and taking one down.
Organised crime could possibly ambush with the hope of getting a nice high value item out of it. Perhaps that is why Amazon are talking about delivering fresh veg etc, dilute the profits a bit. No van driver to mug could make it lower risk for such criminals.
Still, part of me thinks this has to be better than Yodel chucking stuff over the garden gate, so I look forward to seeing it trialled.
