I will use VR somewhere in 2025 at least then an intel HD graphics GPU will be capable to render such extreme graphics ~ costing around $100. During such times a mid range R7 970 (remember the current one is R7 370) will be playing NFS/CREW titles at 8K resolutions comfortably.

I'd be interested to see what optimizations could be made in VR. Currently the assumption is that it's the equivalent of driving two hi-res monitors.
Just wonder if there are some new shortcuts that can be made.
e.g. Render a higher-res/better quality image for the dominant eye, and use lower res version to really just provide the depth perception. Or maybe render higher-res for the center of the screen where you're focusing (or add in eye-tracking). Whilst you might have a great 4k screen today, you're normally only ever paying close attention to a bit of it at a time

That's just the game itself that's up the swanny. My friend has the same issue even on low... and he has a heavily overclocked Titan Z!!

I'm sure I've read that that's exactly what the GPU developers are doing, should make a huge difference if so...

I think I will take my chances with my 'underpowered' 290x and see how it goes, luckily I will be able to use the full 4GB ram without any problems.

Did have me worried about my current GFX card, But then i noticed 1080p 30fps, pc gamers dont game at 30fps unless they have to.

I find a 30fps average absolutely fine, so that's one for your list

That said, the article is fairly clear that nvidia were talking about 30fps minimum, rather than average. But even then, there's plenty of lower-mid-range GPUs out there that'll manage 30fps minimum in a wide range of games @ 1080p.
You can add me to the list too. My ageing 580 manages more than that most of the time but star citizen tends to bring it down to 25~30 at 1080p (low) I hate to think what that game will need for VR...
Whilst 30fps my be fine for a static point of view where a lot of the screen may not even change, once you add head movements you need to run at an fps that will keep up with the movements and not just result in a jerky/torn image on screen or one that catches up with your head movements a split second after you have stopped moving. Otherwise you are going to have a lot of sick gamers.

They're talking about desktop though, not VR.

So, with a VR headset being kind of like two monitors, does Nvidia get to charge a £200 premium for Gsync rather than their usual £100?

Who the f... games at 30fps on the PC? Isn't that 7x more like 3.5x? Do they know how easy it is to get a card that does 1080p @ 60fps in 2016? 3.5x that performance - dual top cards are there already! Shame about that DX12 though NVidia.

Each time you post about Nvidia / Intel, using these childish names, your posts become less and less credible.

I'd say 30fps is acceptable-ish...that may or may not be due to my rig starting to struggle and im happy if I can scrape over 30fps.

Has anyone here jumped the gun and bought any VR kit?
