My argument is why pay a vast amount more for less screenspace if I was going to buy an oled monitor/tv

Considering the issue with LED production is mainly around yields of large screen it is somewhat surprising there aren't really commercial oled monitors in the 20-30" range, it's either 6" or 50"+.I guess they deem the market too small

How can they avoid image 'burn-in' with an algorithm, unless it changes the image? Will static things on your screen be forced to be animated, surely you will notice this?

Not surprising once you are aware of the burn-in and color fade problems with OLED. Currently they only work well with screens mostly off (eg in phones) and on premium products where people have so much money they don't care that the product wont last long before needing to be replaced. If OLED went mainstream right now, people would have to replace them every couple of years. There's an extremely small market of people willing to buy something that definitely will not last long and the more you use it the quicker it will go wrong. It's also against the whole eco tree hugging ethos the world is meant to have these days.

Re: Dell announces the UltraSharp 30 4K OLED monitor

People used to worry about burn-in for plasma but it was a non-issue for home users past the very first generations. I know OLED/LCD burn-in is a different issue, but I again suspect it won't be much of an issue for home users - maybe all the algorithm has to do is shift everything one pixel to the left/right/up/down once in a while or display some noise patterns every 6 months or something.
