Team Fortress 2. Very good game.
World of Warships... for me a great game that you can play frequently and generally have a FUN game without getting steamrollered (unless you go lone wolf into the middle of the enemy fleet!) and can tier up without too much of a grind, at the lower levels at least. I like playing the Co-op (default) mode generally as the opponent levels are generally matched so nothing is OTT. You really do not need to spend anything if you just want to have fun playing at whatever level you're at.
WO Tanks just wasn't fun for me. War Thunder and Armoured Assault are both ok, but still feel to me like WOT in terms of similar balancing issues.
Trackmania is great.
TF2 is too manic for me.
I too have been a customer of GOG for quite a while now, and you can't beat getting DRM-free classics for just a few £. Even less when the sales are on. Most are shown to work on Win7/8/10, and I've not had any problems with my titles on Win 10.
My current machine won't run a lot of online games well enough to play but I was enjoying Firefall last year until it blew up (my computer, not the game).
Quite so.
I regard initially free games, where all to often costs kick in later, and then accumulate to serious levels, as coming from the same School of Marketing that crack cocaine dealers graduate from. Lure punters in, give them a free taste, then start to charge, and once you've got a decent commitment from them, then you milk them, because by then, they've either got to carry on paying up, or effectively abandon the investment so far.
Of course, granted, that does mean a zero-cost chance to try the game. And that's nice.
But personally, before I part with ANY money, I want to know the limit of the cost. You do, with a one-off, up-front fee. You don't, with graduated costs, any more that you do with subscription software, which is one (but not the only) reason why I will not, EVER, pay for a subscription to MS Office (where at least there's currently an alternative route), Photoshop (where there isn't), etc.
That's not to condemn subscription software. For some users, it's a good deal. But it's not for me.
World of Tanks for me, although I have been dormant on that for a while now. After seeing the comments here I will have to give Warships a go some time though.
Strictly a mid-tier fun player I certainly got my money's worth from the £20 odd quid that I've put into WoT - I played it solidly (ie. several hours a day) for about 2 years from beta onwards. Most of that money went on custom camo schemes... so you really don't have to pay to play.
War Thunder is something I've recently picked up and started to really enjoy! It's an initially free game, which includes micro-transactions if you so wish...
Graphics are stunning and runs on my PC at 70-100FPS on medium-high with AA and AF on full. Can't grumble at that!
F2P:
1. Hearthstone (could be considered P2W but trump has provd otherwise- I have a 980ti and this is still my most played game atm and has been for 2 year lol)
2. GW2 (started it recently - having a blast - so much game for free!)
3. Dirty Bomb
4. TF2
5. Heroes of the Storm (blizzard polish = win)
6. Smite
Cheap Games: (under £10)
1. Chivalry
2. CSGO
3. BF4
