AMD XConnect External GPU technology launched

3 years I've been waiting for this. Hopefully come my next big upgrade it's a desktop processor equipped laptop (high end clevo), full fat mobile version of polaris/pascal, 32GB+ ram (also need to do VM's for oracle training) and a thunderbolt port with desktop polaris/pascal waiting for me at home
Won't be cheap but... that's what the oracle training is for

As always, gimpvidia is nowhere to be seen. They seem to be anathema to innovation, particularly when amd is also involved in the same project.

I'd say it seems Nvidia prefer to sit back and let AMD charge in... the latter then shout about all this funky innovation and all the new tech they're bringing out, before falling flat on their faces in terms of delivery and sales... before Nvidia then learn from AMD's mistakes and subsequently bring out a far more workable product. Isn't that why AMD are the only ones doing HBM1, while Nvidia state they're holding off for HBM2?

So is XConnect going to work with any thunderbolt 3 laptop or is it more restricted than that? And is it supposed to work only with AMD cards or with NVIDIA ones too?
