I'm sure we are all in for one big last push, but after that will Microsoft finally stop pestering the life out of people?

Promise . Pretty Please? So you'll stop trying to force it on us? Maybe there is a God in Heaven after all ..... and he/she/it is fed up with fending off "upgrades"?....for now Microsoft insists that after 29th July you will only get Windows 10 'free' when you buy a new device or by purchasing a full version of the OS for $119.
No such thing as a 'free' lunch... Or a 'free' upgrade. However I haven't been conned into taking it up so far, and I can't see the impending closure changing that.

I had been putting off the upgrade for awhile but finally gave in 2 weeks ago... it's not that bad and not much different to Windows 8.
I can't see the end of free upgrade offer forcing me to install Win 10.
My main reason for upgrading would be DX12, which at the moment I've got no games using it.
I also believe I'll be able to sell my retail Win 7 Pro license if and when I need Win 10. Thus offsetting purchase price that way.

Was actually quite happy with the Windows 10 fresh install (upgrade from W7 Pro) I did two months ago until about two weeks ago. Then, for some reason known only to the idiots who programmed it, it decided I didn't deserve Start Menu, Cortana, Action Centre, Edge, etc and those all stopped working.
At the moment I'm going through a remove-then-fresh-install hell, so when (or maybe that should be "If") I get back operational I'm going to be nostalgic for "good ole Windows 7".
Actually the question virtuo et al asked also applies to me - I'm guessing there's no way to 'reserve' my last remaining license upgrade without rushing into installing that fresh Windows 7 Home kit on some spare hardware.
Yup, they'll abandon you to the ether, banished to 'Outside The Wall' and they'll close the gates behind you, leaving you unsupported and at the mercy of whatever is out there.
However, I'm more interested in upgrading to Win10 just so my fellow gamer & overclocker friends will stop pestering the life out of me!!
I had a similar problem a month or so ago... I had to turn off the fast startup and then it starts from a cold start, and not from the Hybrid/sleep/suspend state that fast start uses. problem solved, and the fast start was then re-enabled... no problems since.
I've found windows 10 to be ok personally, and I am happy to be on the latest edition of the OS without any additional cost to me... any worries over privacy can be managed with a choice of apps to turn off the various options if you don't want to go hunting for them yourself. We share a lot of data generally when we use our tech; email accounts, online accounts of all sorts. Mobile phone apps... you just have to know what it is that's being shared and choose whether or not to continue using it, and manage the security as best you can.
Any such concerns can be managed up to a point. Part of the problem is continuous, silent upgrades that you can't turn off, with MS having demonstrated they are both capable of and willing to override such measures as you have taken.
Part of the point is we don't know what's being shared, or what's being done with it, how long it's stored for or what will be done with it in the future.
I take the point about erosion of privacy generally. But all that means is that everyone has a choice to make as to what they are, or aren't, prepared to compromise on. Where they draw the line.
We can all decide to surrender varying degrees of our privacy for convenience, or not. For me, Win10 is a step too far. Google is a hundred miles to far.
Mobile phone apps are a good case in point. You have very little degree of granular control over what data is shared, and FAR less over what such shared data is used for, or to who it's shared, transferred, traded or sold. If you're careful enough, and skilled enough, you can mitigate that a fair bit by changing the OS on your phone, but that's a process beyond what most users are capable of or could be bothered with. So really, your only choice is to use an app and ignore whatever it does, or not. And that's a major part of why I don't have a smartphone at all, and unless/until legislation and OS controls change a LOT in favour of privacy (and I'm not holding mg breath) I doubt I ever will buy one.
Using Windows for Internet?! LOL Good luck.
