This honestly somehow reminds me a lot of Wolfenstein New Order, and I freaking loved that game. I'm holding off on dissing/liking it until I see the results.
Not sure if this is news. It is, however, hilarious.
I'm one of those weirdos who bought COD for the campaign mode - I love playing through a good story. Downside is that the campaigns have been pretty so so since BO2, and the one for Ghosts was truly dire. Like most, I have a soft spot for the original Modern Warfare, although I really liked the WWII based COD2.
I used to count myself as a major league fan, but I didn't pre-order the last one, and the way things are going I'm seriously considering skipping this current one altogether.
So, if my feelings are typical then maybe the time has come for Activision to turn their cash cow into hamburger and move onto something new?
I've always played FPS games for the campaigns, Wolfenstein(s), BFBC1&2, BF3 & 4, most of the CODs etc.I have always liked both the COD and BF franchises.
It has become the trend for a lot of modern games (not all) to concentrate on the MP and let the campaigns dwindle in duration.
I do love playing FPSs online too... obsessed with BF3 & 4 MP still after all this time
I too might be considered weird because I liked Homefront, and I am eagerly looking forward to playing the campaign in the new Homefront
COD downfall came when the started to recycle game engines forgetting gamers want better graphics with newer titles.
You're right... the strange thing is that its far more of a gamble to do that. If you focus on a solid single player campaign (Wolfenstein for example) then people can and will enjoy it at any time. If it turns out to be a success, the public will express a desire for more (god I hope there is more of this Wolfenstein reboot). If you focus on a multiplayer experience then it can sink or swim within days of its release. Without any single player to support it, it just fades into insignificance.
Yeah, absolutely, To my mind a Solid single player game is essential and MP, while not quite essential, is something expected these days, but it is also something that can be expanded, tweaked, patched, evolved over time in reaction to players experiences and wishes. MP doesn't have to be everything all at once, BF3 & BF4 for example, DLCs over the period of a year.
As for Wolfenstein, Return to, New Order, and Old Blood are bl00dy brilliant, I love them, they are the yard stick by which I measure all other SP campaigns. I also thought Half life 2 (+expansions) was a fantastic single player experience.
Benchmark should be The Last Of Us. Fantastic storyline, actually had me emotional more than once, and multiplayer was streamlined and tactical and very popular. Of course there's a certain appeal to bullets whizzing round in a maelstrom of blood, but TLOU was a refined MP that required a lot more guile and considered strategy, imo.
