Yeah, but Edge continues the tradition of not working properly half the time, I'd say a good 30% of my time on a recent project for my work internal tools has been fixing bugs on Edge and IE.

I dont care if it is 70% more efficient, I'd rather use Chrome.

Really, I've not found any Edge cases (sorry couldn't resist) in Edge, compared to Firefox, that's the one that's taking most of our time (I track this for my firm).

The problem with Edge is it's just too immature still, no plugins, odd 'quirks' that result in a flash of white and then the screen reloading. It would have been OK 6 years ago, but now Chrome is too mature.

I find on my SP3 that if I run chrome I get a massive loss in battery, some no doubt due to plugins. Edge and 'tablet mode' it lasts a good 1.5 hours longer.

I use Chrome because I prefer having the page displayed properly.

I have no doubt this is not a straight fight.

Edge may be efficient and fast even (finally!). But until it has the basic features its competitors have and proper page rendering, it will struggle.

I need addons and especially adblock to use Edge, otherwise its worthless to me. I can't stand all those intrusive and slowing down ads.

I'll stick with Firefox. My battery might last longer if using Edge, but I'd lose the will to live long before the battery dies.

Interesting to hear you find Edge fast. On my gaming PC it seems to take an age to get to the point where you can actually use it. I've actually launched it, tried typing something into it, failed and then been able to load Firefox AND use it in the time that Edge seems to need for its post launch processing. And my gaming system is a hexacore with 32GB of RAM and SSD'd so I don't think it's a resource issue. Actually Edge on a 2009 vintage netbook is just as fast. Which confuses the heck out of me!

Sticking with Firefox and Chrome in the meantime.

edge. Hah! Ik9000 says avoid win10 altogether and get more out of knowing you're helping to preserve your right not to be snooped on by nosy corporations.

edge is so urghhhhh! chrome and Mozilla have a ton of Apps and add-ons, Mozilla is still rated as fast, stable with minimum computer resources.

I've always suspected that Chrome would be worst in battery consumption. Its always been a terrible RAM hog. This test merely confirms that Big G is chewing up CPU cycles together with its RAM utilization for some nefarious purpose - in order to do you know what.

That's why I've always come back to Firefox. Open source. No conflict of interest. Therefore the CPU can't be doing things behind your back.

When battery life is paramount, I'd probably try running Edge with the minimal essential tabs to test.

So everyone is agreed, battery life is not high on the lists of requirements for their chosen web browser.

What is high on the requirements is a browser that does everything you need it to (ie it just works), exactly what Edge is still struggling to do.

Microsoft instead of wasting time on on pointless marketing relating to battery life, just fix the damned browser! :angst:

I wonder how many years and poorly recieved chrome updates it's going to take before anything Microsoft offers in terms of browsers is taken seriously.

It's like saying "eat McDonald's hamburgers because they contain vitamin B2." If you know what I mean... ;)
