Well I'm still buying a 480 (assuming the pound doesn't devalue further so I can't afford it!)

am no nvidia fan boy actually am into AMD because they offer better price per performance, who said G1060 wont offer 980 performance? don't forget it has GDDR5X while R480 is has the plain old GDDR5

I'd be more worried about the thing the card is sitting on than any performance.

Looks like a KFC type wrapper with a windows 8 logo on it hehe.

Does it? Why do you think they would they put GDDR5 on the 1070 but GDDR5X on the 1060?

These new releases don't seem to be reducing the prices of the 900 series graphics cards quickly enough

Specs maybe but not necessarily performance (look at the Hexus benchmarks which score is just below a 970). Anyway both are budget parts that are likely to be roughly equal in price and performance, so the smart money would be to wait for a benchmark comparison and then make a choice at that point. Unless you are desperate for one now in which case the 480 will still be a good buy and will do all you need for the next 12 months (at 1080p).

The even smarter money would go on a 1070 or the AMD equivalent when it launches, as that will last you a fair bit longer for not a lot more money, but thats relative to your finances I guess. $199 is still a stretch for a lot of people at the moment.

    >2X the cost is not a lot more money? Or are you meaning you think Vega will be cheaper than that?
