QOTW: What do you make of Pokémon Go?

Pokemon just depresses me. Reminds me of my school days which is never a good thing. I also dislike hype and this game is so hyped I couldn't possibly like it

Kind of disappointed. It's only fun if you are in a crowded area. If you live far in the suburbs, you have almost no pokemon spawning. Hell, I'm on a lake right now and there is literally not a single pokemon. This is bad.

I'm ambivalent to it. Wasn't into it back in the 90s, not interested now. I did see an interesting quote though, it was something along the lines of:

Those complaining about 'sad nerds' going around trying to catch these things are quite happy to sit in front of their tellies for hours at a time, not interacting.

I'm not interested, it does seem a bit like animal cruelty/concentration camp-ish, but if other people want to do it, that's their choice.

I'm pleased with how well it seems to be doing, and it looks technically very impressive - but I have no interest in playing it at all. The Mrs downloaded it and as we live in a fairly quiet part f the world (with terrible mobile signal on most networks), there wasn't much for her to do.

In the uk, if this gets people out of the house and healthier (obviously if they pay attention to surroundings), this might save the NHS some money. A large part of the NHS budget goes on long term health issues (70%, apparantly), one of the biggest being circulatory disease. It's possible the extra exercise people do will improve their general health and in turn help the health service!

Think in its essence it's a great concept: it's brilliant that it's encouraging people to get outside, group up, get talking, check out local points-of-interest etc.

Not so hot on the way it's so heavily focussed on urban centres. If anything, I think it should put more emphasis on encouraging people to go more out of the way to parks, national landmarks etc -- areas that can handle it. My main concerns all come down to the practical implications of having hundreds of people wandering around congested urban centres, amid heavy road & pedestrian traffic, totally glued to their smartphone -- people are already clueless enough.

The responsibility ultimately lies with the players, but the devs should make it easier for people to play without needing to be entirely focussed on their phone. E.g. make it so the app can be run from a pocket, implement toggleable & configurable push notifications/alerts etc.

To be honest I don't have the game. But the wife does, and I haven't seen her since last Thursday - so yeah it's a great game

I've only seen adults play it so far. The local park has been taken over by people aged 15-50 playing Pokemon Go. I'm on Windows Phone so have no option other than observe this craze!

Not tried it. I do like the alpha and omega ones on the 3ds, but I'm not a big fan of games on mobile. Plus, my phone is about 3 years old now, don't want it to die...
