4k with 4.2TF...LOL. If a 1080@250w can't do it...I rest my case. Maybe if it was a 600w box with two 1080's in it...LOL. I still say a card can't do 4k until it can do it with EVERY game on the market without reduced settings Which is probably why my next monitor won't be above 1600p. Maybe the new dell 30in, though I hate that it has no support for freesync or gsync (what the heck dell? for $1250 it should do both...LOL).

It's console 4K which is different to PC 4K, they aren't going for max quality on consoles and when they say 4K they mean above 1080p so most games will render at around 1440p or 1800p just like how on previous consoles they would render at 720p or 900p. Also a 1080 can handle 4K pretty well, even a 1070 with hefty overclocks can (although that's similar to 1080 performance so arguably a moot point), and then you've got the console effect which means games are quite a bit more optimised than on PC.

Yep. I would have bought one if it included one, but as it stands..now i just don't care. I'll stick with my PC/XboxOne for now.

anyway, i dont expect this to be more than 1080p on ultra settings @ 30 FPS, probably this is a mobile version of gimped RX 480.

That would only be the case if you installed Windows and run DX11 games. Remove Windows and DX11 and the performance rockets. IIRC the console can something like a 3x advantage.

They say it uses hardware based upscaling which is in the Polaris based GPU,and say it is quite impressive even when looked at reasonably closely.

The raw performance difference will be somewhere in the same ballpark as the difference between DX11 and DX12....not that I think we have seen many titles that are optimised for both DX11 and 12 to compare....

Most of the gains come from being able to hammer each feature and effect down to a specific piece of hardware, plus targeting 30FPS instead of 60.

How? The 480 its based on is available from £187~ for a model that is overclocked compared to this underclocked polaris. Throw in a similar spec CPU+MB+RAM and you have similar (if not more) power for not much more... Ok its missing storage etc but that's no different than its been before?

Did you guys not realize that this has half the power of a 1080 for way less than half of a comparable PC with a 1080 in it? You could get over 15 TFLOPS of power for the same cost of a 1080 computer at that price/performance ratio.

It sure sounds like one, 4.2TF is a few decimals under a RX 470 and they sell for £170 odd at retail.

Blame ID software, back in the Doom 3 days over a decade ago they released an Ultra setting for 512MB cards when you couldn't buy a 512MB card. Many devs have been following that lead ever since of making Ultra a stupid setting that won't be possible for another year after release regardless of money spent.

Ultra adds nothing to the game being played, don't get suckered in.

Do the consumer Polaris cards do that hardware assisted upscaling though?? People need to also consider the general market for most consoles and gaming PCs - I suspect most don't build a PC,but buy one prebuilt,and actually want things like a whole PC warranty which pushes up costs.

There is also the fact that someone buying the PS4 Pro will be certain for the next few years it will all games for the platform reasonably fine.

The difference between the theoretical limits of DX11 and DX12 is probably closer. We know you can do more on consoles than you can on a PC because you don't have to carry Windows and hefty API. I still think the console will comfortable out perform the PC in a like for like test.
