Opera browser now offers free, unlimited VPN

I'm astonished this browser is still around with Firefox and Chrome taking the leading roles in browsers these days! Especially with the entire failboat that was Edge for Microsoft.

Have you tried it? It's pretty decent, regardless of the VPN feature.

Frankly, I'm astonished at the share Firefox has, given their repeated failure to fix the horrific memory leak, and the new, modular, crash-resistant beta seems to crash an awful lot. Chrome... OK, I suppose, but I often get odd glitches in vBulletin forums when using it. Plus, I'm not too enamoured with the "let's make everything Google" ethos.

I've had the odd crash in Opera too - it isn't perfect, but it gets my vote over the others at the moment.

I miss active development of Mozilla/SeaMonkey - is far superior to Firefox in terms of performance but doesn't have the features being added. Phoenix I seem to remember was written in an easier to use, but less performant way.

I've been using this for the past few days and have to say I think its overall experience and UI feels much more advanced than Chrome etc. Couple that with the VPN option which works without fault or delay and Opera just became my default browser.

The reason I didn't go to Opera, was Ghostery, my can't live-without addon - but that's available for Opera these days so I really should try it again.

I've flirted with Opera for years and it was always impressive, just slightly different from my Netscape upbringing.

This new Chrome based Opera with VPN and less Google monitoring convinced me to switch to Opera from Firefox (at least until Firefox gets stable multi-process support).

Opera is relevant again.

I don't like the fact that it isn't open source. Something as important as an internet browsers needs to keep up on security reviews. Myself I am trying the new Brave browser. It is based on Chrome but has all the google crap removed. They are trying to change the world of advertising on the internet too ... really well thought out!
