Strange though, the S7 edge doesn't have the same problem (at least I hope not - have one)(though I wouldn't mind if it did go up in flames). Though, the Note 7 also has a much more rounded back (feels really nice to hold in the hand).

If this is the problem, they should have had made the phone thicker, to compensate making the battery narrower by making it thicker. Maybe it'll teach them thinner isn't what we want...

I DEFINITELY don't want the S7 Edge to have the same problem, especially as mine is currently in my shirt pocket! That said, if it was susceptible to the same problem, then surely we'd have heard by now. Although I note some Apple shill sites running that kind of FUD.

I've also seen a couple of commentators wondering also if the drive to thin is responsible for Samsung not designing the internals properly, and the self destruct is a direct consequence.

I've also got to wonder how, or even if, Samsung are going to be able to recover from this debacle. Maybe they need to have a word with Google and see if they can use the Nexus name for the Note 8?

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

Re: Samsung suspends production of Galaxy Note7 smartphones

The BBC is claiming that the faulty batteries were made slightly oversize, so they fouled on the phone case: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-37630605
A report sent by the company to regulators was more specific, saying a production fault had caused some of the batteries to be slightly larger than intended, which had put pressure on them when they were fitted inside phones, according to a leak reported by Bloomberg.
However, the link to bloomberg merely blames "an error in production"

Re: Samsung suspends production of Galaxy Note7 smartphones

It's a pity as the note 7 looked to be a very nice, albeit very expensive, smartphone. Hopefully they can find the cause of the fault and address it in time for the release of the next s and note series phones. This is going to seriously affect people's trust in Samsung, but I feel like they are handling the recall and refund process well.

Would any of you guys risk buying the S8 or the note 8 when they are released?

Flew on a BA flight this week. They won't allow the Note 7 on their flights at all. Complete ban.

Ignore: Peterb meant Note 7, not S7.
