Nvidias had a few streaks of terrible drivers so I check to see if they're safe first.
I used to be a bit of a driver updating zealot but now I only update when a new game demands it or if there's some general performance issue that has to be addressed.
About every 4-6 months. Used to be every release, but my GPU is no longer new.

Be Careful on the Internet! I ran and tackled a drive by mining attack today. It's not designed to do anything than provide fake texts (say!)
I generally wait a fortnight, these days, to try and avoid issues with new drivers.
Every time a new one comes out. Goes for any software update for my gaming machine....or my Apple products
When I remember, usually once every couple of months, or thereabouts.
Not anymore. ATi drivers and Flash have a issue of some sorts. I still continue to get occassional Windows crashes where I get a green screen and the fans on my card go full speed.
When I feel I'll see a benefit from the update...
Usually pretty soon after release. I try to leave a little time to see if there's any big issues with the drivers though. As said, Nvidia has had a few hiccups.
If the driver works flawlessly I won't change it until it's a game ready driver that I need.
Update when they're available , or at least when I notice they're available.
I used to update GPU drivers when OEM pushes it as an update, but lately I am installing direct from nvidia site and there have been 3-4 updates recently.
when a game forces me to update.
Pretty much as soon as they drop as running a Crossfire configuration it means that there are more issues / performance fixes to be had each time as they fix or improve the multi card profiles.
I think if I just had a single GPU then I would only update it if the release notes had some fixes / improvements for a game I actually played and if not leave well alone.
As soon as they are updated by the hardware company.
