    <snip>
I would assume an ES would use 8+8 just because, of course showing that to the public would inevitably lead to screams of OMG how much power does Vega use.
It would only dawn on people some days later, after the idea that Vega's a power hog has taken root, that ES are typically over-engineered for testing purposes.

My current card is 8+8. Long as it doesn't need moe than two cables, I'm happy...

Ah, yeah, because that's the fashion now, isn't it - Lower power usage.

Unless that only highlights the overclocking potential?
My current card does 250W, IIRC, with a theoretical 375W according to specs (yes, I had to look it up), so I'm not especially scared.

I'm interested in seeing some Ryzen CPU and Vega GPU-based system in the next few months. It seems like AMD has gotten OEMs to makes some Ryzen boards and Vega cards that are far more interesting than we have seen with other AMD products.

Re: AMD Vega 10 graphics card seen in hands-on video

If you look at the PCB around where you would expect the fan to be, it seems as though there is a very definite line of capacitors between the PCB being packed out with components, and then becoming more sparse. It also looks like the tape kinda had a dent/angle in it further in than you would expect from the shape of the PCB.

Obviously just a theory, but it could be that the "extra" engineering elements of the board extend further into this sample than just the bit sticking out at the back so could also not end up on the retail version. If true, this means we could see something similar to the Air cooled Fury with a short PCB but long cooler to enable them to get enough copper/aluminium in there. Obviously a hybrid cooler wouldn't necessarily need all of this.

Looking at the dent/angle in the tape, if we presume this is where the cooler curves inwards around the fan, Im guessing the retail card could be just shorter than the width of a standard ATX PCB... guess we will have to wait and see

My son is waiting with baited breath for this to be released, even if it only drops the price of the nvidia 1070-1080 GPU's

With this and the Ryzen CPU exciting times at the moment for PC

Re: AMD Vega 10 graphics card seen in hands-on video

AMD have posted a video on facebook of a water-cooled "AMDRedTeam" Ryzen system; assuming that it also uses a Vega GPU, it clearly shows 2 PCIe power connectors....

I finally looked at the video, and it looks to me like there is only one cable coming out of the modular PSU, which would be 150W usually? I'm sure someone that bothered could identify the PSU and work it out, almost feels like the tape was put there to promote people talking about it

Why didn't AMD pick a proper tech journalist to open up the case and show off Vega and Ryzen. Yeah know, someone that knows what he's looking at...

Eh? Linus is a decent enough tech journalist. There's plenty who're much much more clueless.

Haven't gone as far as trying to identify the PSU, but it looks like plenty of modular PSUs do 2 6+2 pin connectors per cable, so it could still conceivably be 2 8-pin connectors under there. Not sure whether to be sad about that or just assume that it's down to over-provisioning on an engineering board...

Agreed. You might not like the guy but he's far from clueless and certainly puts in the research legwork when he has too.

Looks like Bethesda might have leaked the name of the Vega based cards:

    RX490.
How original lol but follows the RX460-470-480 naming convection but 490 makes me feel its not going to be that powerful maybe call it the 520 or something higher (unless it is underpowered).
