Porting Windows to ARM is a lot less surprising to me than SQL Server for Linux. Windows may be synonymous with Intel powered PCs but that is more an accidental symbiosis than intentional, Microsoft would have launched Windows on whatever was the dominant architecture if it hadn't been x86/IA-32; Windows NT was at one time compatible with MIPS, DEC Alpha, PowerPC and Itanium.

To be honest, I thought it was surprising it took this long to port Windows Server. We have been talking about high-density ARM servers for quite a while now.....the writing has been on the wall for a number of years.

SQL Server on Linux isn't such a surprise when you consider their competitors support a LOT of platforms.
