Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
Z80-A at 1mhz. Killed it.
Next was a MOS 6502, that survived
Next was a Motorola 68020, then a 68030LC then a 68040 at the mindblowing speed of 33mhz. Replaced with a 40mhz version.
PC wise 386/33 etc. etc. Last was a Xeon E5645 for this very puter now, 6 cores/12 threads at 2.4ghz for normal stuff

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
First CPU not in a prebuilt PC was an Intel P2 400 which was one of those weird slot CPU's, my very first one included with a computer was a Pentium 60. First family PC was a 486 sx 33.

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
Was either an HD6303 or a Z80A, I had both and some sram+eproms for breadboarding up little projects, can't remember which I bought first though.
First PC cpu was a 386-40, unless you count plug-in cards as I had an 8MHz 286 board plugged into my Atari ST so I could run DOS programs without needing another computer.

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
From a self build, an AMD of some description (though I cannot remember the exact model). The earliest that I can actually remember the details of was 2500+ Barton, for which I also bought a Shiv, although this was around self build number 4, and was the second longest lasting PC I owned! Ended up with an Ex's brother as a Championship Manager machine...

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
AMD Duron k7 1200mhz.I still have the scan of the pc build invoice.
I was very happy because i could watch movie rips and play serious Sam and counter strike 1.6.
Very Fast cpu at the time.Outperformed pentium 2 MX at least two times. Then after 2 years the new pentium 3 camed out, which had 1.8ghz and lot of cache, i remember that pentium 3 was very fine with cossacks game.

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
well according to wiki the amstrad CPC6128 ran on a Zilog Z80A @ 4 MHz.
My first proper PC was a Mesh built around an AMD Athlon 700 / possibly 750 (it came running at 760MHz),
my first self-build used an i3-540.

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
Probably Z80A 1Mhz after shorting out a ZX81's original one with a faulty expansion.

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
First separate purchase processor was an 8087 but not sure if that counts as it's a co-processor rather than central processor ;)

Re: QOTW: What was the first CPU you ever purchased?
AMD 5x86-133 to upgrade a DX2-66 system.
First brand new one I bought would be an Athlon XP 2600+ Barton which I overclocked accidentally by having the board jumpered for 400MHz FSB instead of the 333 it was supposed to run at :D
