    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...egroup-removed

    windows homegroup has been removed.
just finished updating and that message appeared in notification panel.

if anyone uses it, well, time to look for alternatives.

took 2 hours to update in total, on a mechanical spinny and slow poke internet.

OK, what does that mean? It says things are still shared, is this going back to the old days of each machine having it's own password setup? Am I going to have to go back to running a domain controller like in Windows XP?

Re: Windows 10 April 2018 Update arrives, just in time

I have decided to do a fresh install which is working well. I was annoyed when I opened up the store to install the amazon music app and found out that as well as installing updates it decided to install 4 games, one Disney game, two candy crush games and another game which I promptly removed. Apps are per user so I had to go through this process twice as I sign in as a standard user for every day usage and only use admin account for admin tasks normally using UAC prompts.

So the promise that you can safely try the update and go back if necessary is kind of true, but that's no substitute for System Restore. You would simply reinstall the old build and you might even have some software to install — it won't be a perfect return to how things were, unless you're lucky and Windows doesn't change your SR settings like it did mine.
It has on mine too, that's rubbish. On first look it's also greyed out the option to turn it back on.

EDIT: A reboot sorted it, I now have the option to enable it again but the fact it was turned off puzzles me.

No microcode update for spectre / meltdown yet.

I suspect this means I'll be holding off for maybe 2-4 months.

    Really a shame!
