Huh, that is odd then. What had it logged you in to Edge with?! Perhaps it just uses your Windows account to store your edge settings and stuff?

When I started using Windows 10 most of my stuff went through Google, but then I switched to using outlook.com for my primary email, and the integration meant it just made sense to log in to Windows with that account. Unfortunately they then made a functional change to outlook.com that meant I had to stop using it for my primary email and go back to google, but by that point I'd synced a whole load of stuff in Windows 10, and couldn't be bothered to rehash it all...

Yes it was my microsoft account login but when it "logged me in" I have no idea. I have always had an offline account for Windows. But I know to use some "apps" ie Windows mail you have to log in for that but I believed it was per app and not globally log you into everything.

Is there any OS, other then maybe Linux, that doesn't do this kind of thing. Because OSX and iOS will never be on a device of mine if I have any choice in the matter, and in Android, I swear, every app has its own browser now...

Rather than making cookie consent popup laws, can't the EU do something about this.

I don't want google telling me to use chrome, I don't want MS telling me to use edge.

Interesting, as I just stopped using the Edge and upgraded to Firefox, because the Edge is so, erm, what's the world... rubbish.

(Don't get me started on how they've ruined Skype.)

You don't need Edge, Chrome or Firefox, but I have seen systems using them all. I have for instance Firefox next to Edge, because Firefox does not allow me to use their FTP program without their browser.
I made Edge my prime searching machine, which allows me also to go to windows explorer.
If you explore Edge you'll find all the actions you need inside a search machine.
To Chrome I would say, don't! Because if you want it or not you share a way your data for their spam and why is it needed, when I want to get writ of chrome that I need those stupid questions why I delete their browser.

Safari doesn't, but as you have arbitrarily ruled yourself out of that...

But generally this is just a Microsoft version of "Project Fear" - generate doubt in the average consumer mind that other browsers are 'less secure' and so they switch, and all that lovely browsing history becomes theirs. - especially if you use Bling/Fling/Cringe or whatever their search engine is called this week.

Although that comment made me chuckle. The thread basically is about Microsoft pushing their ecosystem. Who is the worst company for pushing (and lock-in to) their ecosystem?

True - but one that works, and isn't pursued by a company that is in all but name an advertising agency or a maybe wannabe advertising agency!
