Re: QOTW: What's caught your eye at CES 2019?

Nothing really , in fact most of the articles I looked at bored me. Roll up screen from LG was cute but as with most completely out of my budget , besides with regards to the really big screens I haven't got a room half the size of a football pitch to put them in. Lol. The RGB craze that is in at the moment don't interest me , would rather have products cheaper products without but don't blame the manufacturers from cashing in on it. All the home connectivity stuff being pushed is of no interest either , if I get to bloody idle to turn something on myself when I need it I'll book into a nursing home. I was hoping for something a little more explosive from AMD as I would dearly like to step up into Ryzen territory when funds allow but memory prices I still find prohibative against a new build. All the health and fitness stuff is
of no interest either , I'm too old to worry about it , if I wake up breathing thats good enough for me.I think Tech is getting too much into novelty gimmicks and should concentrate on breaking some bounderies as someone suggested , medical science etc rather than a fridge ordering groceries for you. Sorry I'm off shopping.

I did some web research and found these things on Ebay, already on sale so probably why we didn't see it at CES 2019.

Doing some rough calculations, I figure the energy density is about 60 MJ/L which corresponds to 2500% more than the best Li-Ion cells and close to the energy held by tritium RTGs - truly amazing.

The most interesting thing I saw was the body-powered watch, but I'm not entirely convinced by how well it will work. There are some fascinating technologies but the current applications of them, which appear to be primarily for show, aren't that great. It will be good to see what else can be built upon them in time!

Indeed. I still have sight in one eye because of such technology, and lots of people still have their lives.

    AMD's upcoming cpu's and new tv's.
I still have a "dumb" tv from 2006 but the picture is still perfect,Unlike the new ones that seem to have so many problems.

Well, I am glad that laptop equipped with RTX cards are finally popping up.. though what I want is tht card in a 15.6" MSI GT series laptop (as opposed to GS - I do not need something that slim and rather have something that is more serviceable and easier to cool).

I am not very interested in the new Televisions as I feel that not enough 4k content let alone the 8k ones coming out. I don't really have any intentions to pay for month tv subscription to get the higher quality content.
The technology I am looking forward to I haven't seen from the CES is wifi 6 with WPA3.

Disappointed with CES. The keynote speeches sound desperate these days, the worst one this year being AMD's. It sounded so robotic with no natural dialogue. Whenever someone came on stage they were more interested in polishing each others ego.

The D-Brand grip case and their prism screen protector... because Linus videos are so heavily peppered with it, I can't remember anything else!

Re: QOTW: What's caught your eye at CES 2019?

It was mostly meh... really nothing ground breaking...maybe just ground walking like that Hyundai car someone mentioned and very little bit LG rolling oled screen. RGB things just nerves cause I see no <admin edit> use for it. And you can't buy high end hardware without it (my mb and gpu both have them).

Now, AMD is going in right direction regarding CPUs, on the GPUs side, they are probably preparing something big and are using Radeon VII as a stop gap.

Nvidia is milking on their RTX cards which offers PARTIAL ray tracing features as full ray tracing still needs a lot of performance. Nvidia's marketing is top notch. If AMD had them, they would rule the (CPU and GPU) world.
