Re: Netflix UK pricing raised by as much as 20 per cent

Having had Netflix, NowTV and Amazon Prime, i would rate Netflix and NowTV well ahead of Amazon for one off monthly subscription film and entertainment packages. Amazon has far more pay extra sevices.
Have cancelled them all as in the summer months i watch far less media and i have seen just about everything i want to watch. The overall savings for me a month is therefore around £24.
Cancelling the NowTV generated the usual get it cheaper offer which i declined and then 24 hours later an even cheaper offer of the Entertainmet package was offered at £2.49 a month for three months so i may take that up.

We subscribe to both Amazon and Netflix and I can honestly say Netflix is still a bargain at £11.99 a month for us. The content is brilliant and getting better every year and the video quality is awesome on a 4K TV. We also have Virgin Media Tivo but we never watch it, only keep it because they essentially throw it in for free with the broadband package.

They make the BBC look like a bargain.

With streaming services more will enter the market. It will soon begin to add up.

I'd agree if the BBC produced content I was interested in. It doesn't so it's poor value for money.

Absolutely nothing it produces is of interest to you? Must have some pretty niche interests.

For me it produces a minority of stuff I'm interested in and a whole lot of stuff I'm not. Much like Netflix.

they're not as good as they were but I still find plenty I appreciate particularly bbc4 recently.

edit: the quality or rather lack thereof of journalism on their website is concerning however. it's really ranked in the last few years and become superficial banal and seemingly based around reporting other people's mindless twitter posts. I object to funding that kind of crap. there people do have a point. the sports coverage is good though. so settings and roundabouts.

Netflix is an absolute bargain IMO. It pumps out way more content that I can keep up with. Almost all of which is excellent. Most importantly though there are NO ADS. Ever.

I do think a 20% increase is a bit cheeky in the sense that its too big a jump (percentage wise that is), but nevertheless the service you get is just worth it couple times over.

Pre-ordering was useful before the days of digital stores, especially if it was some independent shop that offered imports or special editions etc, but times have moved on and there is literally no point in it for the consumers. Pre-ordering today just gives the companies some secured sales figures to waft at their shareholders, the publishers know this otherwise they wouldn't be offering bonus content in the first place.

I think preordering is a huge problem right now, especially in the gaming community. Would love to see everyone just boycotting preorders but I must admit sometimes the pre order bonuses are sweet...

Re: Netflix UK pricing raised by as much as 20 per cent

Hallmark (old feeln channel, $30 or so yearly, well worth it), roku channel, tubi, crackle, etc about all you need and I'm leaving out about another dozen that are ok free movie channels (with commercials of course). Maybe you need netflix for a year every few years to binge stuff you really missed that you wanted. We can't keep up with all the above without netflix for ages now. Cable TV? What's that? ROFL.

Roku channel and tubi have tons of complete seasons (full complete shows in many cases on roku channel). They are all over the place too, not just in TV sections (LOL, horrible organization but TONS of content on roku channel). I don't think many people realize how much content you get FREE on roku (especially their channel) for the price of a cheap player ($30 for low model?). Highway to Heaven, Grace Under Fire, Commish, Cybil, Greatest American Hero, Mcleods Daughters, Grounded for Life, Rules of Engagement etc etc...The list of complete shows is long. I really hope a few other good competitors pop up, or heck, a new hollywood for that matter to go with them...LOL. Only 4000 actors in SAG, why not start a new one with less freaks?

What can I say, I like sci-fi content and anime, the BBC hasn't had anything decent since it used to show .... Star Trek. It's not even content that is niche, just the BBC doesn't cater for it (unless you like Doctor Who, which isn't nearly as good as it used to be imho).

20% price rise while content appears to be disappearing? I think come November when Disney+ launches, I will unsubscribe from all services, the market will be so fractured that we will have another premier league situation where the same content from a few years ago now costs 4-5 times as much. I am almost completely reliant on the likes of MorphTV and CinemaHD right now.
