Maybe HWCanucks have a very intensive test, I could just see in the corner of the monitor, the graphics going crazy in video. Had a quick look at AT again and they're testing with a NZXT Phantom 630 Windowed Edition case, but doesn't say if the side is off or not, but that'll explain it probably.

Edit: Although the Hexus review was apparently not open bench test it was using a "be quiet! Dark Base 700" case? .. and Hexus pulled off 39 dB? Anandtech 50 dB within a case and HWCanucks got 48.7 dB open bench test for the 5700? Hmm..
When it comes to sound tests it's particularly difficult to compare because of the different environments, even using the same environment from one day to the next can give you different results so at best the results published by each individual reviewer should be taken as ballpark figures as they should've done their best to remain consistent by using the same case, same fans using the same RPM, same CPU cooler, same PSU, same meter distance, in the same room, same background noise level, same temperature, etc, etc.

Certainly is! I'm curious about the HWCanucks 5700 results rather the Hexus or AT results really, since they haven't declared their variables so to speak, nearly 49 dB result for the 5700 on an open bench test? The last graphics card review they've done on their website at least, was the RX 590 last November and can't see talk/further info about the Navi youtube review on their forums either. Maybe they'll release the details in an article later on.

Yes a lot of factors to take into account. Maybe accoustic testing consistency across the review side of things probably won't come about with regards to blower cards since they're looking at being on the way the out anyway. I'll work on the assumption that the reference 5700 at least will probably hit 50 dB in an average older case.
