It *was* mid range, it is now quite an old card which sold in huge quantities and if on a shoestring could be sourced second hand.

The RX 580 isn't bad either, a factory overclock RX480 (and I believe most of them were) is faster than a stock 580 so would be fine. I suspect my son's factory overclock RX 570 8GB would play it well enough as well.

Quite, my wife can blow the cost of an RX580 on each tyre on one of her cars, and a set of brake pads is the cost of that quad core even fitting them myself. Doing track days, these things are consumable.

I have been known to complain about the cost of hardware given I have 4 PCs for a family of gamers to maintain, but having to upgrade a rig to play a game does sometimes happen. OFC if that game turns out to be rubbish, then that is quite poor. Just read the reviews, and decide how much you want it. If shiny graphics is a big part of the game, then that's a red flag for me personally.

I had to upgrade my 386-40 to a 486-33 to play DooM back in the day so this is hardly new, and they were real pounds then

I shudder to think how much Elite Dangerous has cost me to get smooth VR gameplay.

Is it just me or does it look like they arbitrarily made lots of surfaces glass-like just to throw in a ton of Ray Tracing? Seriously, who has glossy floors in work spaces? That's an OSHA violation and a law suit waiting to happen, haha...

    I didn't realise this until I read;

Control is a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store, starting from 27th August.
That's a shame, this game looked interesting. I refuse to support the practice that Epic is employing (purely the buying timed exclusives part), I think the developer / publisher split thing they have going on is great, however I disagree with mimicking console timed exclusives on the platform I prefer to game on (PC) to try to force others to follow their own business model. Tim Sweeney can take a hike and the developers that allow timed exclusives can lose my money, period.

No, it *is* a mid-range card, it's the mainstream card the vast majority are using. It was an upper-mid range card, and still is at the £200 price point. And again, *minimum*. The second most popular GPU after the 1060 is the 1050 Ti for goodness sake. I'm still using a 970 because the GPU vendors lost their damn minds.

£200 for a 1060 is a rip off, you can get a 570 (which is equal performance to the 6GB 1060) for £135. For £200 these days you should be getting a 1660 or a 590, both considerably faster than a 1060

Yes there are numerous pools of liquid around and NONE of them have a caution triangle! Surely this must be reported. I would be quite happy to play some of these games at 900p or even 720p ...But a lot of them wont even start without at least 4 cores. Is this maybe funded by gooGle ? who hope that people will turn to its service to fulfill the reqs?
    No way is a 570 equal to a 6gb 1060 , at least 12% slower , specially in games that include NPCx 7 .
Lets start that debate... again ....
Most popular GPU is Intel UHD620 , really

I linked to the hexus review proving that the 570 equals the 1060. If you want to disagree, provide evidence

    Why?
Steam, Origin and Uplay all do that to some extent, no?

At the very least, it will become available to other retail platforms eventually... Maybe just in time for the sales.

In this case, I didn't see any mention that you needed a 1060 6GB to run the game. If the 1060 3GB stock card meets minimum requirements, then a £125 RX 570 should be fine.

How about I come at this from another direction...

I played DooM 3 on an Nvidia 6600GT, a card that was ISTR £130 and mid range. I had to play in 720p because some games are like that and Id have always pushed the limit graphically. That was a long time ago, so I would say that allowing for inflation nothing much has changed here other than Nvidia charging a vastly inflated price for the GTX 1660 (so don't buy it).

    Hell yeah

Being in a dogfight with several ships is amazing in VR, being able to look around the canopy to get a decent look at where the targets are going is just so immersive. Well to me it is amazing, according to my wife to the outside world it's just someone throwing a fit in a silly helmet. Perhaps the big googly eyes I stuck on the front of the Rift don't help with that.
