Hopefully my order isn't cancelled. Shipping & handling costs more than the controller does
edit: watch this assembly video Valve made years ago.

I was to pick up a anther controller in the end of life sale. I feel like I am in the not so common camp with people who really liked the feel and haptic feedback and use this controller gives, even for navigating the pc with just the mouse on the touchpad, convenient at times.
Cool vid, all that effort for £4 hehe
I suppose you're right, there's a "learning curve" with it that I never got used to. Just couldn't get used to the feel of the controller too. Ended up selling mine for half the price I got it for after it gathered dust for half a year.
Sadly, order was refunded today.
I was never interested in this as My X-Bone controller already performed this function very well when I needed to play games with a controller.
I can't help but wonder if this will be the same fate for the Valve Index VR set in a few years? Right now Alyx is going to be released to promote that and other VR sets. I personally won't be getting any VR gear as the cost of entry is too much for me. And I don't need VR to get immersed in my games. Also wasn't 3D was a fad that also disappeared (My monitor still has a "Nvidia 3D Vision Ready" sticker on it)? And as others have said, the Steam Box also got cancelled...
One thing I did want to get, but never did was the Nvidia Shield tablet.... as I'd have loved to play my PC games on a tablet. But never got a chance to purchase it, as they were on the way out when I bought this PC... and I don't seem to recall any other viable alternative that can do this same function. And I'm not interested at all in Stadia or the like!
Thanks for this video. I really do enjoy watching how things get made. The Engineer in me appreciates this.

rPi Steam Link? first I've heard of that, got a link/more info?
I looked at the Steam Link and the controller and decided using a wired X360 controller and/or a wireless Xone controller was better option as a) I had them already and b) I was used to them already. (incidently I've never been able to get along with PS3/4 controllers anything like the Xbox 360/one controllers).
The improved Linux work they've done is good to see though and I keep meaning to put Linux on my gaming desktop to give it a try, but just don't find the time to get around to it. When I get a new SSD (need a bigger one so I can have an SSD scratch drive for video editing) probably.
A few other people are in your situation. Valve mistakenly took more orders than it had stock to fulfil. Here is one reddit link about the refund etc

Amazing how those machines build that controller. If I take a controller apart I have bits of plastic flying off and springs flying out never to be found again!
