Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2019?

Literally finished putting it together last night. Coming from a Haswell i5, B85 DDr3 mobo and RX480 4gb to:

    Rzyen 5 3600
    MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
    16gb DDR4-3600
    1TB M.2 drive
    Rx5700

It flies compared to my old rig. Shadow of the Tomb Raider at a smooth 60fps on ultra rather than a stuttering 40 at medium at 1440p.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2019?

Well my monitor is pretty much dying or dead. I can't turn off my monitor over night or it will take a couple of hours to stop flashing after unplugging the power cable. So I need a new one of those. Just need to find one I am happy with for the price. HDR, 4k, 1000 nits, 25-27" 144-240hz for $200-300. My Corsair Strafe keyboard seems to being acting weird also. Even though it's suppose to have anti-ghosting and all key rollover. The keyboard likes to do double letters at random. Me thinks I'll not be getting another corsair keyboard.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2019?

In February I bought an Acer Nitro 4k monitor which is awesome.

The other change was from Windows Phone to Android and I'm not sure that was an upgrade.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2019?

Nothing this year. Or last year. Or .... well, put it this away, when I do upgrade I'll probably have to remove the dinosaur dung to do it, and you never know what I might find. That it's where they hid the Holy Grail, maybe. Or a famiy of Dodo's.

Not that I'm suggesting it's old or anything but I think the instruction manual is in Egyptian hieroglyphs. I'd need to have ir carbon-dated to be sure of the age.

I'm thinking of upgrading though. Got my eye on a shiny, new abacus.

Well I built a completely new machine back in the summer so I've got to say all components have been upgraded.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2019?

I keep saying to myself "do a full upgrade next year" but it always gets cancelled, because I keep finding that everything still works enough that I can't justify an upgrade. I'm getting more and more into the mood for doing a full build, but I still reckon I can last until the next AMD 4x00 CPU's get released, unless something fails. Regarding PC components changed this year, I had to replace a Seagate 2Tb hard drive earlier in the year, and I simply bought a newer model of the same one, since it had lasted 6 years, and I thought that wasn't too bad. It was cheap too. I fully intend to go full SSD whenever I do go for a complete build.

RAM(more RAM and luckily faster and with tighter timings after overclocking, even though it was rated slower) and bigger SSD.

    https://media1.giphy.com/media/sUNqp...3&rid=200.webp

I had a VERY good year, and my life is starting to improve after some horrible rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish (missus died, yeah yeah move past it super sad wah it was 7 years ago). I finally got the chance to upgrade after so many years of pushing it back. This build started fresh as a 2500 (non-K) so from day 1 I was unhappy with it, but scan are lying feckers and when I got there it was either take that or wait on the 2700K...or give the lad an extra 50 quid and he'd sort me out. Yeah I nearly lamped the scumbag.

BUT moving past that, with that was a set of 460s, then a set of 670s, SLI was always my game, just the most bang for buck. Then I had the genius idea of dropping in a 2700K! It was INSANE the amount of extra horsepower it gave me..but my system was still lacking.

So last week I finally had the opportunity, and I took it. I took it hard yo. So hard. So hard did I take it. Unf. Sorry got a bit sweaty there. 3700X, 16GB 3600mhz RAM, 1tb M.2 MP510 drive!

I also did a lot of cosmetics - cleaned the case, obviously (big-ol' girl, Lian-Li PC70B), and did something I've been meaning to do for damn near a decade - replace the middle fan! It's a 3 pin on a NHd14. As usual, Noctua advised me not only on what to get but offered me free stuff to make sure it all worked.

I also bought an Accello thingy bobby to replace the blower cooler on my stock 1080TI because not only do I hate that thing, it aggrevates my tinnitus something fierce.

Also a wii bar, wii motes, wii chrgers, new gamead, new battery packs...basically after 7 years of misery and hell...I feel almost like a person again. I know there's a lot of people out ther that prefer experiences, but I'm the type who likes to have things he can wrap his hands around, say, this is mine, I earned this

Sorry this turned into quite the personal rant ha. I even just watched football for the second time in like 4 years and both times they were stunning wins by united. Life just feels..good atm.

Damn am I waiting for that other shoe to drop tho..

Oh and just to mention noctua again. Because seriously. If you're not using em, you're a bad person and god will punish you. Also you'll have subpar fans. But mostly the god thing.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2019?

My main one was a new laptop (A lenovo A285 with a ryzen 2700U APU)

and some M2 SSDs: A second M2 SSD (512GB Intel 660p on a PCIe riser card) on my desktop for my main steam library, and a 1TB 660p for said new laptop (wasn't going to pay the prices Lenovo were charging for SSD upgrades when buying, hehe)
