Wikipedia says Intel still have control over certification, even though there's no royalties payable any more. So it's TB but they can't call it that without paying for cert...?

Wait... so we have to pay more now to not have RGB? We’ve officially peaked.

I kinda like that minimalist design, but won't the VRM explode in a fiery death?

I have an Asus Motherboard with 3x M.2. drives. It doesn't have the word, 'creator' in the name.

This board does have the word, 'creator', yet only has 2x M.2. Why doesn't my board deserve the same addition? I feel left out! Can I not create with my machine? I need to know.

To be fair to motherboard manufacturers, part of the reason B550 motherboards are expensive is due to the beefier VRMs that are needed to cope with processors up to 16 cores. The same manufacturers caught a lot of flak from the tech press previously with the B450 boards which were generally pretty poor in the VRM department. Still, there's no real excuse for B550 boards costing a lot more than some X570 boards!

This board screams fugly. That price is a joke also.

This board integrates a card that usually costs £100 on its own. Given my utter dislike of Thunderbolt, that seems pretty poor value, paying so much for something I know is just going to hack me off.

One Intel gigabit LAN port is nice, but two of them? I would much rather have the 2.5GbE Realtek based port on the cheaper board. Built in WiFi can also take a hike.

... I don't think this is the board for me, is it?

It's more likely Gigabyte is overcharging for TB in that card due to its niche status. If it were so expensive no Intel laptops would have it,especially with the margins OEMs fret over. It's just another excuse to add some tickbox features and ripoff "gamers" and "enthusiasts" even more. Add $1 of LEDs and a $1 microcontroller.....add $20 to the price. Typical upselling.

You only have to look at the Asus B550I Strix which is £100 more than my old B450I Strix and costs the same as other X570 mini-ITX motherboards. So where are A520 mini-ITX motherboards going to end up - the price of B450 ones. The entry level Gigabyte B550 motherboard is 40% more than the B450 equivalent it replaces,ie,£100 instead of £70,etc and is mATX. £100 would get you a full sized MSI B450 Tomahawk with probably better VRMs.

Considering how much gamers throw at microtransactions and streamers on Twitch,AMD/Nvidia/Intel have identified PC gamers as an ideal target to ripoff more and more. So what do we have - bigger and bigger price increase per generation. Way above inflation. They basically think PC enthusiasts are whales. Even Apple tried that, and their sales started to go down,so they had to release a "budget" model.

Ah, but Intel can bundle it with laptop chipsets basically forcing certain classes of laptop to have this feature.

A board boasting its creator credentials should be X570 for better PCI-E 4.0 support if it is going to tout that as a benefit.
I love that aesthetic, and would be awfully tempted if they brought that to a more standard-featured and affordable board.

I suspect a lot of people will be prepared to pay the high price, just to have a new AM4 motherboard without a chipset fan!

I mean, I would pay more to avoid a chipset fan. Not that much more though.
