Why - It's overpriced, cheaply made cack.
There are several known faults, the biggest one being the thumb buttons frequently breaking. I think Button 2 was the most common.
I went through two of them myself, and my oppo stubbornly went through three before he finally learned from my experiences and bought something better.

Yours - Yes, I expect it is on its way out. You might be able to crack it open and fix/re-wire the switches, but it will be fiddly, as they used the thinnest and least amount of wire possible, to save costs.

Apologies to the right honourable membership for the very irrelevant post about HOTASes (HOTII? HOTAE? HOTATUM?), so back to SW Sqns...

Got given it for my birthday. So far only had time for a couple of goes, but the flight control has been really quite laggy.
I'm delighted that my CH Products kit works fine and I don't really have much in terms of deadzones... but it's like I'm flying in treacle. If you're executing a tight turn and want to snap your crosshair onto a target, you have to give two weeks notice before it actually stops!

Not ever played one of these. Played Black hawk down and the likes there of as well as F1 but never played with a flight stick. Might give this one a go though.

@Ttaskmaster - Are they trying to account for lack of air resistance in space? (Retrorocket style - if you don't apply a counter thrust you just keep moving).

I'm really tempted to buy it but figure it'll come to EA play and therefore be on game pass in a year. I'm just going to wait for that personally.

I don't think so... as everything else is fine. Throttle up, away you go. Throttle down, you stop.
There's even a button, like Flight Assist Off in Elite, that allows you to drift Newtonian Physics style... but more like Freelancer, really.
Besides, SW ships never flew like that in the films anyway, so why would they try getting smart here?

Wait until they've put out a couple more patches, and/or for when it gets a bit cheaper. I'd pay maybe £10-15 for this, but not the full whack.

Apparently to increase your turning rate you throttle back towards the apex of your turn and throttle up after, as if you were doing weight transfer in a car. Obviously it's not 'proper' but proper isn't fun.

Ah the old realism (sim) vs fun (arcade) argument. Seems odd they would include Flight Assist off yet support BS physics elsewhere? I guess someone decided it was the right balance of fun vs skill.

Definitely. Flight assist off is fun and still lets you play space cowboy. Full newtonian physics doesn't lend itself to the kind of battles you see in the films and want to recreate.

Elite: Dangerous is a great example - the ships all feel great to fly, yet there's not an ounce of 'realism' at all.

On the other hand you can play Kerbal if you want proper physics. But it doesn't lend itself to space combat

Yes, as with many games, but that's not the issue.
It's the stopping. Specifically, it's how two of your three axes will stop dead on, while the third carries momentum leading to overshooting your intended vector.

This version is not even proper flight assist, just a mechanic to allow slide-shooting.

There's a good few pounds of it. Not enough to make the full ton you'd expect from a dedicated flight sim, but enough to keep the gameplay fun... in the same way shooter game characters suck up spare ammo through their feet... rather than having to stop, bend down, pick up the mags, get to a place of cover, strip the rounds out of the spare mags, and then load them into your own mags because despite being the same calibre the spares are not compatible with your chosen firearm. That's realistic, but in no way fun!
