Wow. Stunned at the lack of love for this. Maybe it only struck a chord with me when it launched.
Sure, it went a bit "off-piste" when the story moved away from the Far-Cry model and introduced the cyph, but up to that point, I thought it was a beautiful, really well structured and enjoyable game. I'd have loved it if it had more of the first levels where you were figthing aainst the human invaders to get to the artifact.

Really looking forward to seeing this on my 4k screen, especially when my 2080ti comes

Agreed, but some of those weren't as expansive /OW as they could have been so felt a bit linear.

The original Crysis wasn't poorly optimised on the GPU side, but more CPU limited:

Crytek actually dialed back certain aspects of the game to make it run better. Also have people noticed how the Ceph in the original game fly about? Then newer ones they walk about. This is because in the original game they used different AI models, whereas in newer games you tend to have walking enemies so they can re-use the human NPC models.

Nonsense, it was a very good game back then and its still pretty damn good in 2020 and one that I still play through now and again. Yes, the latter part of the game isn't so good at the start/middle but overall it's still great fun to play.
