B450 the ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING to be exact. came bundled with a 3600 for £30 ish cheaper than buying seperate.
had to buy it at that price. the previous phenom II gigabyte thingy from my sister (after my biostar forgot what ram was and wouldnt detect any) that forgot what the BIOS was and wouldn't even post anymore.
16 GB of 3600 mhz generic 'ryzen optimized' corsair ram went in no probs.
still using mechanical drives for stuff, couldnt afford more than a 250gb ssd for C in the emergency purchase. everything runs fine enough, dont see any need to get better other stuff, like a newer GPU and a monitor thats bigger than 1680x1050. the 750ti that i won from HEXUS back in 2014 still powering that just fine, and it seems to be running stuff faster on this ryzen than it did on the phenom, so even less a reason to upgrade.
dying light ultimate edition (won from techland a few weeks ago) runs very nice on it as does the surge, subnautica below zero and NIOH.
and its all plugged into an Enermax 350 W naxn.
edit: chipset stuff:
the external USB drives making POST take a longtime is odd, the pprevious computer with USB 3.0 ports, boot up was only 25 secs, its 45 or so on this one. so theres some chipset/USB 3.x reasons theyve slowed down. stuff copies to them about twice as fast though get over 100 mubs (MB/s, mB/s Mb/s??) on big files.
tiny bit confused about the m2 slots and how they affect the pci-e ports , but thats for another thread.
the fan setup in Fan Xpert, is glorious, just run the tuning and it detects what all the fans can do, gives yiou a speed curve graph where you control 'the noise and blowyness'
because of the ryzen auto tuning temp thing it does, i just set the fans to the silent bit on the curve, and let it auto do its thing. under and over clocks depending what it feels like and its been around 42c for most of this past week or so. up to around 45 ish during heavy gaming. thats good right? for the stock cooler?
the RGB logo bit is still on, just to remind me that ive not turned it off at the wall yet, so thats handy.
all the rest of the ROG stuff is just on auto, dont really need it, as i said, only got this board cus it was on offer for £30 less in a bundle..
i suppose because its their top B450 board, it likely to support more ranges of ryzen going forward, like the 4 and 5xxx series maybe/ notthat ill be upgradiung for another decade or so at least, Ryzen 12xxx series will be out then maybe? 256 core or so. maybe intels 10nm range will be out........
