I expected the pricing to be way higher than it is, with Sony perhaps leaning on their dominance within the market and strong exclusives. Not the case. Great price point on the Digital Edition.
I think I'll be grabbing the standard version for the 4K Blu Ray player, allowing us to get rid of the Xbox One S that's being used exclusively as such. Should be able to get about the price difference in selling that.
That (crummy) launch line-up reminds me why i never think its worth getting a new generation console until about 18mths after release.
They have been outmanoeuvred by MS. The S is £250 and the games pass is good value + you will get some free months with a new console. It is the obvious buy if you don't want to spend a fortune and then you are hooked to the xbox eco system.
Moderately interesting. Shame it looks like a cross between an anorexic (Battlestar Galactica) Cylon, and a Tonka toy. No way is that going to be on-show in your lounge. Domestic Management would hang me up by the 'nads.
Also, looks like a superb design .... for a dust trap.
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
It just looks a bit cheap, especially next to a modern TV or AV Receiver.
Kind of like the Apple stuff of the late 90s.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
havent had a look at the digital only edition, but seeing as i almost exclusively download games, i cant see me needing the full edition, so thats an excellent price.
as long as the specs are identical
Console fan in this house (since I switched from an Atari ST to MD/SNES back in the day), as well as a PC fan but I think I'll wait on this. At this point, with the All Access pricing, it's easier to buy a new Xbox with game pass for £20-£30 a month and see how this generation plays out that to stump up for a PS5 upfront.
The thing is also huge, almost twice the height of the PS4 Pro(!) and significantly wider.
I really do wonder who console manufacturers think 'gamers' are these days...
The design is so out of place for most homes it's ridiculous... whatever happened to doing something that would 'fit' the home decor, at least MS's doesn't look daft.
Then you have games costing £70.... good job there isn't many in the launch line up at those sort of prices....
As someone who doesn't have a console and is unlikely to buy one (prefer pc) imo the MS offerings are much better.
The spec is slightly (ever so) inferior to the Series X, so I expected them to at least match, but thought they may undercut.
Still, I didn't think they price the digital version so low. I think a lot if people will go for that, it'll cost a lot more in the long run (a hell of a lot more).
Microsft have dominated in everything so far next gen, not outright dominated with console pricing, now Sony have held off to counter.
The Series S may sell well, especially in the current climate, but I know more people who are less sure if a purchase now, due to this lower teir model.
Having the Xbox One X and now the Series S (which is weaker in GPU grunt, may just surpass the One X with newer features) just feels like a step back, rather than progress.
Microsoft have also forced Sony to address the poor service they offer, but even the small package they have offered isn't very good.
I feel next gen could be rubbish for at least a year after launch, no good games (either side), let alone must have, wasted tech, so far.
Watched the launch event... was struck by how little appeal the PS5 exclusives have for me. Perhaps I’m too old for the PS5.
Sony are pretty good at supporting their last generation for a while so I guess it would valid to pick up a cut price/second hand PS4 Pro for virtual 4k gaming compared to the XBox Series S. The subscription model is interesting - Microsoft have been pushing it for software for a while, now hardware! Makes you wonder whether Microsoft are going to be pushing for a generation shift and will start dropping the current XBOnes sooner rather than later?
Will probably pick up one with the drive sometime next year. Still ugly as though!
The only interesting thing was Demon Souls and they accidentally confirmed its coming to PC.

No need to buy a PS5 now for me at least.
For me a console has always been a compliment to the PC - not a replacement and therefore with the Series S including game pass (which I already use) for £21 a month its almost a no brainer looking at these prices. If I want more power I've got a PC. A decent 1080p device for a quick gaming session is enough for me.
