I'm glad being furloughed until next month made me wait.
I'll see what models & stocks are like for Xmas.
16Gb 3070 is looking good for me provided they are priced sensibly. Or the 250W equivalent from AMD (rumoured 64CU model). 16gb 3070 vs Big Navi benchmarks can't come soon enough!
Time to wait again maybe
If these 16gb/20gb variants are coming out soon this year then I see no reason to jump right into getting the current 8gb/10gb models, unless the prices are way up and over 1k mark.
Do you really need a car, more than 30fps, more than 1080p, hobby, happiness, pc....? no you don't but it makes a hell of a difference if you have it.Originally Posted by [GSV

It's not even future proofing. Most games take about 8gb these days and some over 10gb easy.
sneaky nvidia's business strategy. Release slimmed version with hardly enough vram and then release a "proper" card with enough vram for £200 more. A bit like what game devs with stripped games then selling dlc that originally were part of the game. Greed on steroids... and still not enough.
Whoa whoa whoa wait a minute - you're telling me that the company that brought out products at 700 and 1500 are potentially going to release products that will fit in price points inbetween those 2 ?!
WELL JAYSUS ON A BIKE I AM ASTOUNDED, SHOCKED, SURPRISED, AND FLABBERGASTED
COD MW usese more than 10gb at Quad HD resolution. I went from 2gb 770 to 11gb 1080ti. I see no reason to upgrade yet.
Also, why couldn’t they just release these 16gb/20gb versions from the start
Temperature and money
The temperature can’t be that bad if they’re able to release the 3090 with 24gb GDDR6X soon, along with AIB confirming there’s a definite 16gb/20gb model this early
As for the money cost, which they will make back and more seeing how every single card is out of stock
Then this just comes down to Nvidia strategy move because of AMD cards
AMD is probably the main factor, but there are likely several others, such as early yield on chips meaning it's better for them to sell cut-down parts and when the process improves/inventory increases they can start offering non-cut down ones in volume. Also it's just clearer from a market point of view with no competing with themselves. When they bring out the 20GB version they'll not only get new sales, but also there will be some people upgrading from the 10GB.
