Oh look, another graphics card that will be out of stock everywhere, just like every other model.

"Speak *to* a card"? What an abomination of an idiom.

12gb is a nice add-on for content creators.

So for that reason I also think they've been smart and are using chips that wouldn't otherwise go in console (and likewise consoles are using chips that don't make the card's frequency target).
The console chips are 100% custom SOCs though. About the only possible re-use they could have is with Microsoft who might be able to turn a defect XBX chip into a XBS one but even that is doubtful.

In a way it would be a good idea to try the opposite of chiplets: make a big chips symmetrically mirrors of each other with a wide 'bus' in the middle so they could be cut in half and still be functional.

The still being functional is probably the problem.

EMIB and the interposer things all route all signals out of the chips instead. Unsure how more efficient running the signals on the dies would be.
The wafer-sized Cerebras AI chip routes their chiplets but they don't do any cutting.

Very good point, I'd forgotten that.

The top picture states, 'Max settings'. If the game I'm playing falls under 60fps, can I lower settings or am I stuck at, 'Max Settings'? Asking for a friend.

Far too expensive and power hungry for me I'm sorry to say. Oh, and no doubt a nightmare to get hold of anyway.

Thankfully my old MSI GeForce GTX 1070 ARMOR 8G OC still seems to do the job. Plus I'm not all that bothered about ray-tracing or greater than 1080P gaming anyway.

Roll on the next generation that will hopefully be less power hungry and, with any luck, more readerly available and significantly more affordable.

Can't see a reason why these cards will be any different to other releases.
The only thing that will save it is volume released. But, i think we're all assuming that's gonna be poor. I've seen no tech news that would make me believe otherwise.

If both sides work you can make more profit selling them as one big chip; if one side is defective then you can sell it as a half-size chip with the defective bit still attached (but fused off)

Yes, but apparently not very well.

The 5700XT, which people stayed away from in droves as a game playing card for worries of driver problems etc is apparently much faster. But it isn't miners buying them we keep being told, oh no don't blame them...

If the rumour on TechPowerUp, via Igor's Lab, is to be believed mining or not isn't going to make much of a difference as apparently there's only a few thousand 6700 XT's for Europe as a whole.

Also, speaking of mining, it seems like that Ethereum mining restriction on 3060's has been broken.
