    Why? Intel bought Altera just fine about 5 years ago. AMD buying Xilinx didn't really impact the competitive landscape.

    Intel wouldn't buy AMD for a simple reason, it needs a competitor in the marketplace or it invites competition and monopol investigations and potentially being forced to break up.
