If they aim this with the view it's going to have high viewing figures, and aimed at families and children, then it's going to be an instant flop. We need a knowing, low budget affair aimed at the 11pm / 40+ crowd, with double entendres galore, and rediculous non-serious challenges that make us laugh.
It's subject is gaming, but primarily this is a light entertainment show, and needs to be grounded with this as its core value. If it's not entertaining and funny, no one will care. I can get all my PC advise, news and reviews in much greater detail online any minute of the day. I don't need trailers or 'news'. I hope they work to the strengths of the TV format, and hopefully don't try and pull a like-for-like modern day equivalent, as the old format won't work 30 years later without some major revision.

Depending on the format and choice of games this will either be excellent or awful. If they pitch it right it will have a good selection of games but I fear it will just be fortnight and COD...
Guess we need to find out who they push it at? I suspect 16 to 18 year olds, in which case as a 40 year old with joint pain I'm out.
Hard to say how this could go down, people watch games played on internet for difference reasons.
Just some examples
https://www.twitch.tv/avoidingthepuddle - naturally funny guy, can make watching any game funny.
https://www.twitch.tv/macaw45 - fountain of hyper obscure retro games, always interesting to watch.
Maybe some combination of that could work for a new Gamesmaster, it definitely shouldn't b COD/Fortnite if it wants to get respect but that's what advertisers might want.
You could replace gamesmaster with Dr Disrespect, might actually be funny and get some attention, he is probably cheap to hire now with his banishment from twitch.
Bring back Dominik Diamond
"This game is better than your mum"
Never really watched shows like this, but most only worked because back then they were the primary source of news/content for most of the audience... Nowadays, with the interwebz, I'mma lean toward redundance and floppery.

Dominik Diamond I could stomach but not that pretenious Dave bell-end in the bandana who would sometimes be on to commentate. My mate at school went on there and won the 'faux 64-bit' Atari Jaguar and had bugger all to play on it!
the 90's format simply wouldn't work; neither is there a demand for it. seems little more than TV trying to muscle into the current watch rather than plan trend
I think it would have to be a bit of a piss take to work for 20+ people.
Perhaps with celebs doing a bit of 1v1 with some banter, show boating and of course gloating. A SF 2 turbo competition would be good for nostalgia and everyone thinks they were the nuts at it.
What was the sky version with the games mistress and big boy Barry?
Presenter wise I think it would need to have a decent comedian who can take the piss, task master style. Perhaps having two presenters selecting a small celeb team each and competing against each other.

What they could do with this is make the show a game in itself, so the hosts and the contestants would login to a custom built gameworld specifically made for the show and have the players navigate the show say crystal maze style to build up to a main event that they could win something or help a charity. Each room could contain a game to challenge them like two people enter to do a fastest lap or race in car racing game with the loser getting locked in the room. The finale could be an unreleased game which would be cool, if it was this week I'd watch the show if the finale was a head to head fight in the upcoming Deathloop game. That would a good marketing move to promote new games and keep viewers coming back next week for more.
Apparently those two weren't exactly best buddies. I liked Diamond, but always thought Dave Perry was a bit of a helmet.
I'm glad they're giving this reboot a go anyway. We haven't had a gaming TV show in the UK since Videogame Nation was cancelled. I used to enjoy that, especially the bits with Aoife Wilson
A lesson learned from PeterB about dignity in adversity, so Peter, In Memorium, "Onwards and Upwards".
I suspect It'd take far more work than any production company would likely put in to make it sustainable. Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit was a great laugh for nostalgia but all got a bit samey after not long.
Do you mean Violet Berlin and Gaz Top on Gamepad. My god the rather busty Violet was certainly a source for belly fizzing this 15 year old lad I can't believe they're still married - no wonder he always look smug
