You know Android and iOS already have features like this? This is just Microsoft keeping up with the game. As soon you let users out of 'ecosystem', next thing you know they start using a different browser, then OS! You can blame Apple for this closed ecosystem BS if you want to - they started it and are still the main drivers of it.

You need to understand Microsoft are interested in revenue and user numbers not your preferences as you make up <1% of the market being technical and wanting to do things your own way. I'm afraid the only way to get real choice in the consumer market is Linux.

    Laptop : Dell Inspiron 1545 with Ryzen 5500u, 16gb and 256 NVMe, Windows 11.

iOS and Android are still basically mobile OS's.... windows is not a mobile OS. While I don't dispute this is the reason, they shouldn't be treating a desktop OS like a mobile OS, it's bad enough the revised UI on windows 11 is basically being designed around mobile device usage, at the expense of desktop users (arguably windows 8 all over again)...

That's why i don't use a 'smart' phone, I'm just not interested in the walled garden, companies telling me how i can or can't use my hardware.

They've got sharp teeth and apparently you can hold their mouth closed with just two fingers.

The problem is no one but enterprise pays for an OS anymore. Even OEMs barely pay to put windows on laptops thanks to Chromebook. Microsoft want you to be using their ecosystem to keep profits rolling in.
