    Re: QOTW: Do you backup?

Video and audio content lives on a separate mirrored NAS drive. For everything else, I have Google Drive, OneDrive and Dropbox backing up simultaneously.

Might seem like overkill, but you never fully appreciate your data until it becomes irrecoverable.

    Re: QOTW: Do you backup?

I have multiple backups. My PC gets backed up every day to a WSE 2016 server which in turn backs itself up to an external USB drive. I also take backups to USB HDDs which I store off site.

    Re: QOTW: Do you backup?

Yes, an external drive for "things i'd rather not lose but it wouldn't be the end" and for transferring stuff. Then I have 2 USB sticks that are both a clone of "stuff I would cry and cry and cry over if I ever lost" that are never used for file transfers.

I also backup when I see something scary or dangerous

    Oh so true, that.

I'd guess a lot of us that are a bit "overkill"-ish, are so because of bitter experience. I was lucky (-ish) in losing stuff that hurt, but ultimately didn't matter. I'm not getting caught out by my own laziness or lethargy again. But a good strategy needs to be both effective and require minimal manual effort. I'm very thankful for scripts and schedulers.

Weekly backups to external disks of key areas are good enough for me.

    Re: QOTW: Do you backup?

Yes to cloud (Google drive currently) - why would I try and replicate a decent backup routine in small scale when they do a better job of (and more geographically safe)? I do occasionally take an offline copy onto some rarely used HDD drives but that's more a fail safe in case a hacker really wants to make life hard for me. I doubt I'll ever need the local copy so its a once in a blue moon sort of job given my current internet speeds.

Usually backup before a ssd secure delete and OS install. I like the free backup solutions that give you the ability backup individual folders and files and not just the whole folder or OS.

    Re: QOTW: Do you backup?

yes. All docs and Plex stuff are on Raid 5 array, to keep a hot-copy. I do periodic backups to 2x separate single drives which I then put in the fire safe(s).

I'm finding that I have to do a clean down of all the watched TV series up to get all the media onto the disks as I'm backing up >8tb to 8tb drives

I'm only using robocopy, but it's served me well to keep the source/destination in sync.

    Re: QOTW: Do you backup?

None of my PCs fully no, but every now and again I backup important bits like pictures etc to two external drives (One USB and one SSD)
