No thanks, I have seen how this ends on black mirror.

Plus I probably can't afford/justify one and would have to tidy up to much so it could move around.

Re: Amazon shows off its Alexa-powered Astro home robot

Well in my apartment / where i live, i close the door to rooms i do not occupy, so that robot will have very little space to roam.
The only way i can justify it was if i lived in a place with a open design, and i do also to a degree like that layout for a dwelling.

But even then no way in hell would i let this roam my premises.
Also as it is wifi,,,,,, well i dont have / use wifi, so it would be pretty dumb sitting there on its charger.

Re: Amazon shows off its Alexa-powered Astro home robot

I was a big Amazon fan years ago. Had several Echo devices. But at some point it just got too creepy with the targeted ads that reacted to what I said when Alexa was NOT supposed to be listening. Got rid of all of it and stopped using Amazon altogether.
It could also have been my smartphone listening on me (thanks Google), but I started blocking ads everywhere back then and because of that it's impossible to know if it actually stopped.

Alexa robot and cameras? Yeah, that's a hard no, of the 'after hell freezes over' variety.

Re: Amazon shows off its Alexa-powered Astro home robot

as much as I like a gadget, the robot doesn't look cool, i woiuldn't buy it at half the price, and it wouldn't like the carpets and doors etc in my flat

the glow is semi interesting in that it looks like something from the 50 year old movie 2001 but i wouldn't pay more than £50 for it as i'd hardly use it bar playing about when i first got it. the idea of the projection thing is cool though

Apparently there was a punch up at one of our local petrol stations, so you might have to tool it up for that task.

That's fine. I've seen Robot Wars and am good enough mates with Craig Charles that I could possibly get him to narrate my YouTube footage of the fracas...

Re: Amazon shows off its Alexa-powered Astro home robot

Love the idea of robots in my house, hate the idea of them harvesting data on behalf of Amazon/Google/Etc

So this is a no for me.

Made me chuckle when i read about a leaked Amazon document claiming the developers said "Astro is terrible and will almost certainly throw itself down a flight of stairs if presented the opportunity.".
