Yet another fairly high-spec monitor misses out on HDMI 2.1 - seems like a peculiar thing to leave off in this day and age.

I wonder if it's certification costs.

This isn't a high spec monitor, 1440p 144Hz is quite common.

HDMI 2.1 is of no use to PC gamers with it being a 1440p monitor which is perfectly fine for DP or even HDMI 2.0.

The only monitor HDMI 2.1 chipsets on the market also require the use of DSC and DP 1.4 + DSC does the same job for 4K 144Hz.

It's only 2K, it isn't like it requires HDMI 2.1. I'd guess most users using a PC would be using a Display Port connection, and DP1.4 + DSC is more than enough to drive that resolution at 240Hz.

Re: Samsung Odyssey G5 S32AG52 gaming monitor revealed

@Iota / @Kato-2 : I was thinking primarily of the world beyond PC’s - devices that output high frame rates / high-colour / HDR formats - that the screen supports, but where HDMI 2.0 is a bit ropey doing this stuff beyond 1080p. Not necessarily exotic video gear either, even an Xbox Series X pushes into this kind of territory and is worthy of a decent 120hz-capable, low latency, HDR, FreeSync display at 1440p. High-end action cameras / drone cameras also often push HDR at high framerates, so there are users that benefit from multi-role monitors with two or more high-spec inputs.

Whilst 4K would be even nicer, for many folks, 1440p is currently a sweet spot of quality/price/performance for more recreational setups - including for those that have 4K screens already for their work setup, but which lack the HDR / FreeSync/ GSync / 165 Hz / low latency features they might want on the entertainment side.
