MS over at LostCircuits, who used to work for memory vendor Mushkin, and who now holds employment over at OCZ as their Director of Technology Development, has been an inspiration of mine in terms of technical journalism over the years since I started doing this stuff.

His latest article, which looks at the differences in performance and power consumption of the latest Venice core revision for the Athlon 64 processor, is a study in how to do things right, from a scientific point of view while doing technical writing.

And it looks like the Venice core is the best revision of the Athlon 64 technology to date. Here's a snippet.
It certainly appears as if the transition from the 130 nm process to the 90 nm process in conjunction with the use of Silicon-On-Insulator and the dual stress liner technology has been implemented very successfully by AMD. The dissipation numbers deliver a very powerful message, likewise, the new core appears to have enough headroom to scale up a bit beyond the current rating and with refined silicon mixtures probably beyond 3 GHz. The sample at hand was working up to 2.8GHz, even though above 2810 MHz, some errors did occur in e.g. Prime95.
