Well , tbh this ain't changing my mind, I'll be playing with the PS3 dev kit yes.
But will I buy one? No.
Will I buy an XBOX 360? Yes.

Blimey, if thats the case i will be stick to PC's for my gaming entertainment need's. I was thinking of getting a PS3 for gaming and relegating the PC to internet/music/work duties. Mainly down to the uber powerful graphics, but by then a mid-end PC will be wiping the floor with it.
More news on the price.

"not aimed at households"?
Feh. Hi Microsoft, my name's Mike. You'll be getting my money this time round.
"We're looking at a life cycle of 10 years with the PlayStation 3."
Ok, so it's using current GFX technology and they expect that to hold up for 10 years?
Could this be a sign that Sony are investing heavily in the PS3 and therefore want a long life to recoup on their investement?
10 years is an enormous length of time in technology terms... 10 years ago we were just starting to see GFX accelerator cards on the market for our 486s... Look where we are now.
I know that the trend in acceleration is slowing, as predicted by Moore's Law, but I also expect there'll be some major breakthroughs too. GFX cores only run at a fraction of a CPU speed right now... what's to stop someone essentially slapping a modified CPU onto a GFX card (for example)... the PS3 will be hugely out-moded in 10 years.
I can't see that being the case, not in it's current form anyway. They might be selling the PS3 for 10 years, but surely they would bring out a PS4 before then, just keep the PS3 going for a while like they did with the PSone. Maybe bring out a uber small version of the PS3. Even possible that the tech used in the PS3 could be used in a handheld in 10 years time. Sounds mad, but look where we are now with the PSP and what we had 10 years ago. As you say, a lot can happen in 10 years, especially a change in marketing direction.Originally Posted by Nick
I would put a bet on Sony holding off till the xbox 360 arrives and then release in europe to give it a little bit more edge they did it with the ps2 also. PS2 appeared then the xbox came out then the new streamline PS2's appeared with a few tweaks to try and hold the market. Its always the same for the playstations in europe 6 - 10 months after the States and Japan. To be honest I am more interested in nintendo's next offering
Steam: (Grey_Mata) || Hexus Trust
Thats the thing though, with Europe 6-10 months behind and with the X360 being released in the UK certainly in time for Christmas 2005, Sony are giving up nearly, if not definitely, a whole year to X360...that's an awful long time to let someone get established in the market...
Life-Cycle of 10 years isn't uncommon, after all you can still buy a PSOne can't you?
Don't confuse it with how long it stays "current-gen"..
Poor old Ken really doesn't do Sony any favours lol
