    Wireless USB rears its head

Tom's reports that Wisair has showcased a reference design for a wireless USB hub. Any USB or USB2.0 device can be attached to the hub, which in turn interfaces with the PC at a range of up to 30 feet, via a USB dongle.

Perhaps now the area behind our PCs can start to get somewhat tidier and less like the head of medussa.
"We are very excited about the traction that Wisair is making and expect to see our chipsets integrated into many products in 2006," said David Yaish, Wisair president and CEO. "In particular, our new WUSB reference design fulfills a strong market need for wireless connectivity to portable devices, a business decision validated as we have already secured agreements with multiple manufacturing partners."

Sounds good as I have been struggling for 2 days behind my machine to see which cable belong to what and what was that "unrecognised USB device"!!

this sounds like one of those things where you think why hasn't anyone thought of this idea/brought a product to market sooner. Would love something like this because i really hate wires

Because they've been working on a standard for wireless USB, I think.

This wouldnt work with everything tho would it.

What about USB powered devices, you cant transmit electricity over radio wqaves, does that mean they die with the pace of technology?

The hub becomes the power inducing device and is connected wirelessly to your pc. As if you had a bluetooth chip in the hub that "talks" to your pc. All your devices will be as before but not physically connected to the pc, just the hub.
