But the first person shooter ever, imo, is goldeneye on the n64

And while a keyboard and mouse is the superior control method, some people get along just fine with a pad.

I really cant be bothered to buy a £300 graphics card (thats if i want a barely suffiicient one for running this at least) just for this one game no matter how good it looks/plays.

    Please release a 360 version

Problem being to get all the DX10 graphics say hello to Vista and a new fx card for dx10, this game will cost you a pretty penny in a system upgrade as there will be no DX10 build for XP anytime soon according to the ATi / MS interview they did with HardOCP.

"DirectX 10 will be available to Windows Vista users only at its introduction. You will not find DirectX 10 being released for the Windows XP operating system. DirectX 10 is deeply embedded into Windows Vista operation and we currently know of no plans by Microsoft to allow Windows XP to officially support the new API. Also embedded into Windows Vista is DirectX 9.0L to allow for compatibility with DirectX 9 components."

That assumes that Crysis will only support DX10 compliant hardware; it was demoed at E3 (I think) on an X1900-based crossfire rig, sure, using pre-release DX10 runtimes, probably, but that's DX9 hardware. Assuming that MS DON'T release DX10 for XP (a fairly safe assumption) does that mean that you have to throw out your DX9 card? I doubt it; DX10 will run on existing hardware. There may be hardware released later that provides additional facilities that DX10 can use, but it's not here yet even in vapourware form.

Yes it will run on DX9 hardware but read what I typed I said " if you want all the DX10 shaders/graphics etc etc" its bound to work on DX9 cards. It will be the same as running HL2 and Doom 3 on a DX8 card, you just don't get the nice little touches.

I DID read it, and I'd already read the HardOCP article when it came out, but you're overlooking the fact that DX10 hardware doesn't exist. From what we can see, the game is already running with stunning graphics on DX10 runtimes on DX9 hardware. Crytek are developing it for DX9 hardware with DX10 runtimes.

Absent DX10 hardware, they wouldn't be able to test or demo the engine properly prior to their scheduled release, which is THIS WINTER, i.e. around exactly the same time that Vista ships. What you said was:

Problem being to get all the DX10 graphics say hello to Vista and a new fx card for dx10, this game will cost you a pretty penny in a system upgrade...
Bottom line, all the pretties that you can see in the demo are available and will be available on current hardware, so while the OS upgrade may be forced, the GPU upgrade isn't. You WILL have to upgrade the OS, but if you already have a good DX9 card, this game WON'T require you to change that.

Dear god, I will agree with you there. That was the best ever FPS in its time! Wasted many hours with 4 player deathmatches.

To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

This is the Crysis DirectX 10 preview shown @ Microsoft E3 2006 Press Conference:

Lighting in the jungle scene and the way the smoke and fire reacts in the carrier scene really strike out.
