I think that's the case, yes. I've heard that a lot of DVD manufacturing machinery can be easily adapted to HD DVD whereas BR needs a different manufacturing process.

I'm probably paraphrasing there BTW, I personally have absolutely no idea at all how they work

Yup, but D-VHS had the benefit of being able to read your old vhs collection, and people were very insistant at the time - the attitude was "why would anyone want to watch a film on a disc?" and "nobody is going to rebuy their collections, so d-vhs is the ideal solution"

    oops

Then of course dvd's made it into pc's etc and that sealed d-vhs's fate.

HD-DVD and Blu-Ray aren't all that far removed btw - it's mainly political, so the costs involved aren't going to be that different.

    It's mostly a bunch of mud-slinging.

no but i heard the games are. much like a psp where the system aint regionf ree but ,ost of teh games are. either way i guarantee that a ps3 wont sell more than a wii because teenagers and kids cannot afford one.

Only the hard core fans and adults alike can possible purchase such a system..to me, a console worth more than 200 is not a decent price for a console TBH. if you double the price of a ps3 plus add anotehr 100 or 200 punds. you could easily build a decent gaming rig

People probably buy more PS3's than Wii's because Sony have the brand name behind them.
Although Nintendo have a good reputation, more people have heard of Playstation than Wii.

An advantage the Wii has though is the price. PP3 sales will probably only kick off when it becomes sub-£380.

There's no doubt that all three of the next gen consoles will sell, and sell well.
The 360, Wii, PS3 will all be a success as each of them have such a strong following.

One thing that interests me though is which is more popular, Sony or Nintendo? Yes Playstation is a lot more popular than Wii.
But, is Sony really more popular than Nintendo? Clearly they've had a lot more success over the past few generations. Yet I still feel that Nintendo is still THE name of gaming.
Mario of course, is still the daddy.
