$100 laptop - latest prototype unveiled

The One Laptop per Child $100 laptop looks to have taken another step closer to reality.

The latest version of the OLPC machine made its public debut earlier this week booting off an internal flash drive and running a massively stripped-down version of the Fedora Core 5 (FC5) Linux operating system sponsored by Red Hat.

Find out more by checking out Christopher Blizzard's Blog on OLPC

Fancy helping out with this project? Well, you can pledge $300 to buy two for charity here, though whether UK donors will get to keep the third PC that the money buys isn't clear to us.

surely it just adds to the cost!

intresting thing with this, if you've been playing with the latest version of office, you'll see how people are starting to expect high res displays, that way more pixels can be given for user interface.

I wounder just how far behind this will be when it hits the market!

(and yes, i know the BBC Master in my parents attack has enough RAM and CPU to do everything i really need it to, but seriously, what did i use to write up my final report on!)
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)

remember, this thing is targetted at a $100 price point. that's less than a game boy, and less than those v-tec pretend "educational" computers. in that they've got a spec which isn't a million miles from the other half's ibook - which isn't screaming fast, true, but is good enough for Firefox and OOo. 640x480 seems fairly lame - but it's certainly better than nothing, especially for those who would never expect to see a pentium in their lifetimes
