I have always wanted but never bothered to construct my own media centre pc - there are just too many standards! First of all you cannot stream video over wireless with pre-N versions only just coming out... and then will it take 1080p from blu-ray/hdtv sources? there's dvi and hdmi fine but now there's hdmi 1.3 and other digital connector standards coming out. we got video cards that are only just getting hdmi and are there video cards that can do hi def digital tv in? you can only just get auzentech sound card for dolby digital encoding (or old nforce 2 chipsets) but then hi def sound standards are just around the corner... you really need hi def tv or projector but many still can't take 1080p and of course decent amp and 7.1 speakers would be nice... then there's configuration (it bitches), setting it up with pvr functions (again, work for hi def?), not enough hi def content currently anyway and do you go win mce (simplistic but lacking) or mess around with myth etc? and then can you make it easy enough so the wife can use it?
it's only for the really dedicated i've decided...
