The Xbox 360 actually costs more than the PS3, claim Sony

Sony are playing some funny games over in Japan by releasing a fact sheet following their big announcement on the PS3 launch titles which claims that the Xbox 360 costs more than their console. Pfft!

Check out the Headline for more info.

To be fair they forgot to include the Wireless network Adapter which costs extra for 360 and is included in the PS3 and Wii.

I sense a lawsuit coming on.

I don't know what the world's coming to, Sony just seem to shoot themselves in the foot each time they open their mouths.

I have to say this is extremely bad work by Sony, did no one check these figures before publishing them to pretty much every interested party.

Problem is (and I have said this in another thread) I think Sony are playing the "say it enough times and people will believe us" card on the pricing. And they must know that people that read and get informed on these type of forums are in the minority. I should think though there will be some interesting comment on the BBC/ITV news when it comes to launch time. Even when they did it about the announcement event Sony got a suprising bit of negative press comment.

"and even if consumers bought the HD DVD drive seperately, it still wouldn't amount to the ludicrous price that Sony are claiming."

You can do the sums... It's $598. Which is a dollar less than the PS3 with 60GB HD and $100 more than the 20GB PS3. And the 360 spec still doesn't have a wifi adapter.

The PS3 has a lot more in the box than the 360 and Sony are pointing out the low 360 price has a cost later on if you want to up your specs.

None of the numbers are incorrect. It's all about dispelling the myth that the PS3 is more expensive than the 360. It isn't when you do a like for like feature comparison. You can debate wether those features are needed or desired, but not the actuality of the numberage.

they actually use the term requires. Which is libelous (sp?) especially when almost none of them are required.

They also say online is only free on the wii for the first 6 months, when i was under the impression that was only the browser they were going to charge for after a 6 month free trial

I've got to ask, what exactly are Sony smoking, and is it legal?

Last I checked, you don't have to buy a wireless controller or a HD DVD drive or an XBox Live Gold (Silver is free) account to have a fully functioning 360 which would knock $300 off their listed price making it $100 cheaper than the ps3.

If they're comparing like for like, shouldn't they add an extra joypad to the PS3 list (as the 360 they've listed would have 2 joypads - a wired and a wireless).

I think it's a low tactic. They must know what they are doing, but do they need to even do that in Japan?

yea, Sony did hide bits of it as it will cost as much IF you bought a core pack to start with..

But it does carry an ounce of truth as most parents or not-so-informed users will rather shell $299 for a core pack and let the kids have wired controller and a 64MB mem card rather than $399 for a premium pack..

So it does make SOME sense.. Not everyone are as informed as HEXUS members..
    Me want Ultrabook

And it is, *if* you go out and buy a core 360 and then go and accessorise it up to the same spec as a 20GB PS3.

It's only $598 if you go straight to the premium pack, and skip the wifi adapter.

The simple fact is, the PS3 and 360 are in the same ball park with pricing.

Style wise though, a single unit PS3 versus a 3 box 360 (360,PSU,HDDVD drive) is going to be quite compelling to people who don't want a rats nest under their telly.

It's odd that no one's mentioned that the 360 pricing does give the user two controllers (one wired, one wireless)...

I couldnt care less about the style tbh

I purchassed a 360 for the games and if i was going to get a PS3 it would be to play games aswel. Surely nobody is going to choose one or the other over aesthetics.

Whatever special needs calculator Sony are using, the 360 still comes out considerably cheaper. Furthermore, you can choose to pay the exorbitant price for a next gen disc drive or not. If i end up getting a PS3 itl be for games not blu ray movies.

As for low tactics, they are all out for as much of our cash as possible. I remember Sony sending out junk mail previews of the ps2 to try and spoil the DC launch.

ps3 is not out yet. Why the ps3 is so expensive? It's all because of the blu-ray drive.

Ps3 may be more powerful than xbox 360. But for a delay powerful system, which should be able to do that. But if you open you ears, you can hear some news that saying ps3 games is not easy to create because ps3 use different opperation os than windows.

To be honest, i don't think ps3 will do as well as they did before. I'll get the wii or xbox 360 before the ps3 price gone down..
