I'm disappointed there is no x264 benchmark available.

And the value summary still excludes the motherboard and memory from the price, which skewed the i7 result.
    Workstation 1: Intel i7 950 @ 3.8Ghz / X58 / 12GB DDR3-1600 / HD4870 512MB / Antec P180

    £213.79 inc VAT
Slightly overpriced if you ask me, factor in a decent AM3 motherboard and some RAM and your knocking on the Core i7 Door.

Fantastic AM2+ drop in upgrade though.

Its a beast of a CPU for a simple AM2+ board upgrade but is it really worth nearly twice as much as the X3 720BE ? ? ?

It's worth pointing out that Hexus chose one of the more expensive AM3 motherboards. There's plenty of good ones in the £100 - £120 range, and (at both Scan and Ebuyer) they top out @ £160 - the same as the cheapest 1366 motherboards!

My biggest hope, given the good performance of this processor, is that we'll now see proper AM3 memory packs, supporting 1.9v with very tight timings...

It does seem a bit odd that the pricing puts the 4th core as having the same value as the first 3...

Seems like it's going to be like this for a while as I can imagine etailers would like to get rid of their stock of 940BEs first.

Have to agree, im currently got a rig on order with a 940be for my cousin, i don't intend to change it because the price difference does not seem worth it. Plus im on a budget and at £160 for a X4 940 its stupid money.

Re: Reviews - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition: back with a bang

I dont see any need for me to upgrade my 940BE to one of these as the only advantage it has is DDR3 compatability and 2 meg of leve 3 cache. The 200 mhz upgrade in speed means little as they are both black editions

    Good review
