Just to get the software that makes your computer turn on and a few danty programmes?.. Hardly.
Based on the performance figures alone im amazed at how well XP has stood the test of time. Im more disappointed that 7 hasnt moved on that much especially with 64bit.
In the case of my laptop Ive had to dual boot it with XP. Vista & 7 drains the battery power like no tomorrow. When im plugged in, Vista & 7 are both nice OS's to use and performance is fine though the fan never stops.
Ive found the AMD Cool n Quiet driver in XP works so much better at slowing down the CPU when simply on the Internet/Office apps verses the in-built power management within Vista & 7.
Incidentally, DX11 is out for Vista, as of yesterday.
