Makes sense i suppose but thats still annoying
Pretty much, and thats what i used to find amusing when people said there was no upgrade path for Lynnefield - becuase i forget that your (not you personally) going to go out and buy 'Gulftown' after 18 months usage out of an i7 920, oh really
Either way platforms will come and go and with Intel wanting to wack an IGP on everything I think you can expect an new 'extreme' socket for Sandy Bridge. theres also the issue of is there really any upgrade from an i7 ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
Lynnfield is Nehalem, but I guess you're asking if the same thing applies to Bloomfield (core i7 920 etc.)? The answer's no - Gulftown is the 32nm replacement for Bloomfield, and it uses the same socket. They've not specified the exact socket for the one after that - it's listed as 136x at the moment I think, so might be 1366 still, or it might lose a pin like the 1156 -> 1155 transition.
Looks like no 32NM quads from Intel this year:

Doesnt this rather play into AMD's hands on a price performance level?? It almost feels like intel are giving amd a chance lol
I do feel like intel are treating (especially the enthusiast crowd) as cash cows and idiots. Want our newest chips ?? buy a whole new platform :fail:
Big win for the laptop market etc.
