ATI's Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition GPU

It was a bit of a pain in the ass to get one, I didn't enjoy the black ops drop into Canada in the dead of night, covered in black paint, but the result was worth it.

Any indications on OpenGL performance?

ATI are undertaking a complete rewrite of their OpenGL driver as we speak, the merge of the FireGL code not giving them the performance they are after.

Pure OpenGL performance analysis will have to wait for future articles, but on the whole it's fine.

Ta, I'm using more and more 3d tools these days, so having good opengl and games performance is good to know :)

Now this looks like a damn good card. 16 pipelines, now thats gotta be worth it, from 8 (on my 9800 Pro) to 16, thats gotta be good. The temporal AA seems pretty nice, there are already a few and i mean only a handful of programs already out that can apparently set Temporal AA for you. Overall, a great review and a must get for any ATi fanboy :)

Apparently we are talking 160 Million transistors in this one! (according to ati.com)

62Million short of nVidia's latest, but my oh my does ATi know how to put them to good work :)

I don't think ATI count transistors in the way that NVIDIA do. I'd imagine R420's real transistor count is a lot closer to the 222M on NV40 than you might think.

Each of the XT cards were hand made by Celstica [iirc] this is why there was a fluctionation in the clocks - look at the clocks of ExtremeTech, HardOCP, HEXUS, and other sites - they all vary a lot. We had to clock ours down to the real clocks

btw, the yellow connector next to the molex is not for audio, whatever it may look like. apparently its for video input from an external jack (see Tom's Hardware Guide review).

Interesting...

.... I dont think there is as much headroom in this core as others.

But then again it doesn't look like you need much core room at this sort of quality!..
